I’m autistic so the game naturally pleases me. Mining blocks calms my brain. Know how beavers have a natural response to running water of building a dam? It’s like that, but with walls. Also bosses and gear progression. But if you don’t like mining and fighting you can also play fashion souls and build cute bases or automated machines. What a hidden gem this game is! I didn't know about it until my wife’s boyfriend suggested we try it. It mixes elements of all the biggies, Minecraft, Stardew Valley and Terraria in particular. I won't spoil it, but do look out for the obvious name drops in the game! However I feel Core Keeper doesn't 'rip off' these games, instead it tries to be different, it merges elements from these games without going full copycat, this is what makes it so good. It borrows fundamentals parts of those other games so we know what kind of game it is, but the underground mine/where you go loop is very new and unique. I also like how it doesn't go too much into the lore, which is good for players who like to role play and create their own stories. I've played it co-op with my wife’s boyfriend for many hours now. It's pretty much Terraria like I mentioned but underground and top-down perspective instead of classic 2D. The Stardew Valley part is pretty much just cultivating seeds and cooking what you harvest to get some buffs and health back. It's a pretty interesting game with fun boss fights (some are quite hard), several different zones to explore, and resources to extract to craft things and improve weapons and armor as many other games of the like. You can get seeds to cultivate, cook quite a lot of dishes, and make potions and sh*t, plus you can even craft boats and cars, and the weaponry you can find around is varied enough (bows, muskets, swords, magic wands...) so it offers a nice experience overall! The pacing is also really nice as it automatically guides you to what you should do next, whereas in the games named above, I felt there was sometimes a bit too much time between grinding and going to the next biomes before something substantial happened. There's indeed some grinding with materials, but it doesn't take too long to get to the automatization possibilities (railways + wagons, drills + hooks + conveyor belts, etc.) so you could end building some sort of mini-Factorio thing to get all the mineral resources, and that is highly enjoyable, too. There’s also awesome music and a lot of beautiful decorations. There is so much to explore and find out and I love to create a lot of different armor sets and do bosses over and over again. I REALLY love the gameplay loop of exploring, and then coming home with a bunch of new materials, tech, decoratives and spending (way too long) time building and decorating the base. There is always more to do. Every time I think I’ve got the last item 10 more reveal themselves that change up the game. Phenomenal! The fact that it has so much customization and the ability to be creative is just so awesome. The base building and decorations are my favorite part because there are so many good looking things you can get creative with and build beautiful bases and scenery. Doing my farm chores, getting it all cozy, setting up furniture and lights just so. Yes you can optimize for resources, but I’ve also enjoyed sitting back and styling my farm, or creating my own zoo of enemy floor tiles, etc. Then when I am bored of that, I can put my battle pants back on and go explore and fight more. There's some really funny stuff you can do with combat to get some insane numbers with silly things like the bubble gun or musket and any number of other things. There are some little quality of life things that are missing like locking inventory slots for specific items so the sorting gets easier and some other little extras. But overall it's really nice and an awesome game to play together with friends or your wife’s boyfriend. Corekeeper isn't the first with its characteristic gaming loop BUT it does a fantastic job with it, and doesn't waste your time with anything not fun. Great QoL life features, beautiful art, excellent sound design, a compelling world, all make it very smooth and immersive, and addictive. It's fun. If in doubt, get it on sale. 9/10

It was a neat game right up until they patched out scrap repairing because idiots on Discord wanted more pain and less fun. Now you have to grind hard to keep all your weapons and tools repaired and have a finite amount of resources available to do so in multiplayer. There is also a massive grind for farming as harvesting doesn't have a 100% seed return and your farm will slowly dwindle away unless you keep killing mobs for drops. If they are gonna keep patching in grinds.

This game is quite a bit of fun and very enjoyable. I'm 75 and my friend, who also plays, is 76. Maybe our age makes it more enjoyable and we do balance our expectations with our abilities which are quite reduced from 50 years ago. As of today, we have played 175 hours and plan on playing again tomorrow. I believe that anyone can play this game as long as you consider your abilities and balance your expectations with that in mind.

It's like if you sat Stardew Valley and Minecraft at a table with some wine and started playing a little Barry White. 9 months later you get this little beauty. 10/10 would recommend Barry White again.

I've nearly 100% this game, and after many, many hours, I cannot currently recommend it. The game is fun with friends for a few hours, and the first few bosses and base building are a fun thing to do together. However once you are able to go beyond the wall, the game becomes a bloated mess and the poor design choices become obvious. There is almost zero environmental storytelling, and the 'final' bosses essentially require a tracker to find, which when crafted, gives you their exact location. Why do you need such an item to find bosses? Because the areas they spawn in are so massively huge the chances of running into them on accident are very, very low. This is just the bosses mind you, finding the best gear in the game and completing all achievements is almost impossible without reading guides online, and even then most are just a mindless grind. Maybe that is exactly what some people want, but it got old quick for our group who mostly gave up before we had defeated the final main bosses. The best things the game has to offer are some lovely sprite-work, music that suits the game and can be quite relaxing, and the early game feels like a struggle to survive without being overwhelmingly hard. Beyond that, the game has a major issue in a few regards; One is the simple overwhelming abundance of items in the game, and how quickly different tiers of armor and gear can be replaced. It eliminates a lot of sense of progress as one tier of gear can be replaced very quickly with little reason to revisit old areas once the gear has been surpassed and the boss has been defeated. Furthermore, the automation options in the game, while limited, are almost completely unnecessary and feel like they were added more because every other similar game has those options, as opposed to actually serving a worthwhile purpose. The other main issue of the game is at a certain point, exploration simply gets boring. You start to realize that there are only a handful of enemy types in the game without enough variation between them to stay interesting. Slimes make up roughly half of the enemies, and I believe they all have the same AI, with only slight tweaks to their differences (regular, poison, slippery, burning). Combat is not particularly engaging or interesting, which is ok for a game like this, but when you're dealing with enemies CONSTANTLY it needs to be more engaging than presently. It's very clear there is a lot of passion put into the game, and it has numerous references to other well established games in similar genres. That being said, it's hard to tell if this is really the dev's attempt at making a different game, or if they are just pulling elements they like from others without understanding what makes those games fun. There is some level of creativity in building a base or creating pixel-art with the tiles, but I don't feel it goes too far beyond that. Overall I wish the game had more thought put into the game design rather than just adding more and more 'content'. The current roadmap outlines a new area with new items to find, but I just don't see the point other than to essentially pad the game even further. There is little to no story currently, and the idea of 'unraveling the mystery of the core' is perhaps an end goal, but something the dev should really focus on finishing before moving on to adding more and more items. As it is now, the game is clearly unfinished from a story standpoint, but I don't know how you could make it satisfying in the end after grinding through as much as is necessary to get there.

This game has a ranged weapon that's called Grubzooka and I think that's beautiful.

The farming & gathering from Stardew valley meets the Terraria exploring & fighting. It's a fun & chill combination. Some interesting things with grinding for materials but making it less tedious by setting up drills. Also makes it so you want to actually use the electricity system. I'm playing in Alpha and it does crash every 1-2 hours, but the core of the game is a keeper ;)

The primary concept is fine, however this is just another game based on requiring you to create food to fill a hunger requirement, and this is the primary reason to ignore it.
