The game is fun, but it's limited in its current state. The weapon customization is limited, the blessings are very cookie cutter and uninspired, the content is lacking for a game of its price.
Like I said, it's fun, but this genre is saturated with games that are cheaper and have more content currently. Let this one cook a little while longer, see what the devs add and modify.
Edit: The devs pledge to keep adding content to the game without paid DLC is refreshing.

I didn't get the chance to play the demo but I bought it either way and I don't regret it at all, it's fast paced and fun the way I imagined it to be. I see a bunch of comments saying that the game doesn't save, but I personally haven't had this issue. I can't say the same for session browsing as I don't have friends

Great game, but the devs didn't balance enemy spawn rates based on the session player count. This game isn't that bad with 4 people, but it's a nightmare with 2 or less. The plate activation missions are absolutely abysmal. Enemies infinity spawn without a window for players to catch their breaths. It's almost as if the game wasn't play-tested before release. All in all, I think the game has alot of potential, but as of right now the devs desperately need to focus on rebalancing.

The game may be set in the Abyss, but the gameplay is shallow. There are positives. The game controls smoothly enough for a standard shooter and the challenge-unlocks are meaningful and can be obtained in a reasonable time. The game looks good in a sense, but it is also another drab stone temple.
But the game is failing at moment to moment interest, per-run powers and the meta-progression tree.
Guns are very simple weapons and the player has only one at a time. The player has little to do when playing but fire/alt-fire, and grenade power. The alt fire is just a slightly modified gun power, like scope or overheat shot. There's no complex interactions or tension between abilities. In fact, the heat system might encourage grenade throwing, but otherwise it put the player in a situation where they have less to do.
Enemies, all of which are all samey colored, don't have fun interactions either. There's a lot of chasing the player, forcing the player to run backwards which might lead into more enemies. It's pretty much impossible for the player to enforce their will on the enemy except by killing them. Enemies frequently dive bomb the player when at low health, which means the player can't get caught in a reload or the have to run even more. It's all very playable and doable with skill, but not very interesting compared to other shooting games.
The gods' blessing style powers are astoundingly boring. They're almost entirely "your primary/secondary/ability deals 15% extra damage and gains/has a chance of applying . It says a lot when I don't care at all about the powers.
The meta progression tree is unbalanced and dull. At level 1 you have 1 obvious "gain 1 heal" abilty, and when you see this the tree looks interesting, but then the rest are all "4-5% damage boost for one of the three categories", a bonus more like a dot on a WoW build with little feeling of moving forward.
Compared to the competition, the game is not close.

Fantastic game. Unfortunately getting review bombed on release because of an issue with session finder. You can still play with friends via steam invite or solo. This game does not deserve to be Mixed (64% at time of posting) because of an issue that's already being addressed and that doesn't make the game unplayable. I highly recommend this game!

They fixed the hard crash, and pretty promptly. The game is fine, it has great gameplay that I really like. But, as for the second issue: the developer replied to me. If there is an issue with save files not working, it's due to weird symbols in your name (as I have). If you for some reason do NOT get a working save file, or want to pre-empt it, manually make a profile from the menu. Once the devs fix the save bug, I will change my review to recommend, because the gameplay is really good.
It's a shame this launch happened the way it did. I wish the developers the best of luck, and more foresight in the future.

I really wanted to like this game, but I'm already bored.
My favorite part of a roguelike game is the variety found in each run, and often unlocking something new with each run. That doesn't appear to be the case with Abyssus. After over four hours, I'm tired for running the same bosses (I think this is always the same) and seeing the same blessings. It's been a couple of hours since I've seen anything new.
With that said, there's a lot of things the game does well. Great graphics, emotes, weapons, music. Sadly, none of those things matter as much to me as the volume of content in a roguelike game.
For anyone trying to determine where my roguelike content volume expectations come from: I've put countless hours into Rogue Legacy 1 & 2, Hades, and the Binding of Issac. I've also beaten and loved Returnal, Inscription, Gungeon, Slay the Spire, and more. Most recently, I played Hades, and after each run, I was ready to play the next. That's not been the case with Abyssus. After a couple of runs a night, I'm ready to play something else.
Abyssus just doesn't do it for me. Everyone run has felt nearly the same. Maybe my weapon was different, but the five I've found don't force me to play any differently. Maybe my blessing were different, but they look almost the same as a run or two ago. Maybe my charm was different, and that's probably true. There are a lot of charms, but I haven't really found any that make a big difference in how I play.
If your planning to get this to play with friends, you'll have some fun with it. Maybe wait for a sale. I was hoping to recommend this to some of my friends, but I cant because I'm already ready to move on. Perhaps my expectations were set too high.

Just not enough run variety to be worth it, sadly. There is content here, it's just very samey and shallow (no pun intended). Especially difficult to recommend when it's so derivative of the likes of Gunfire Reborn, but is so much more flawed. As it stands, there just isn't much of a reason to play Abyssus over any of it's competitors yet, unless you really like brinepunk. YET. Given time and some system reworks, I really think Abyssus has what it takes to rub shoulders with the likes of Gunfire Reborn. But for now...I can't recommend Abyssus over it.
Regions are lengthy and offer zero reason to explore, or offer the player any sort of choice. You just follow the sole pathway, walking from arena to arena killing the same handful of enemies, maybe taking a brief shop detour every once and a while, and that's it. There is some degree of enemy variety, but not enough to keep it interesting past the first couple fights, you really do see all the region has to offer in the first fight or two. The arenas themselves are pretty drab. Just the same few room layouts with dudes in them for you to kill. Sometimes there are bonus objectives, but these never amount to more than 'stand on a plate' or 'shoot these 3 objects then shoot everything else.' The 3rd area is far and beyond my favorite, mostly because level design gets shaken up with more prominent stage hazards and more interesting architecture.
Combat is good but there just isn't enough there. The weapons are all pretty cool and interesting, but the lack of meaningful mid-run upgrades just kills it. A vast majority of how your run plays is decided by the weapon, ability, and mods you pick in the tent BEFORE the run. This completely kills any and all of that classic unpredictable roguelite excitement of working with what you have and making your build as you go, and sucks pretty much all of the replayability out. Anything you find mid run feels, at the very best, like a minor enhancement. Talismans, even when having two, really don't help either. The most interesting one I found was a legendary that made my rifle shoot 3 bullets instead of one. Most are situational, useless, or just outright boring. Forges offer the only bit of genuine run-defining upgrades, fundamentally changing your weapon or ability, but they alone can't make up for how bland the other upgrade systems feel.
One or the other, I can deal with. I'm going to continue to make the comparison to (launch) Gunfire, since the two games are so similar. Gunfire has, to me, a lot of the same level design issues as Abyssus. The rooms are very bland and samey, and there aren't very many enemy types. However, the insane degree of gameplay variety between runs thanks to the randomized weapons and completely run-defining upgrades at the end of each level keeps it feeling fresh. The portal rooms help mitigate the lack of variety, too.
BUT THERE IS SOMETHING HERE.
The game itself plays very nicely, and there's a lot of great foundation. I'm just an idiot from New York, I don't know the first thing about game design, but all this game needs for me is just more variety. More enemy types, so I don't see everything a region has to offer in the first two arenas. More unique arena layouts, so it doesn't feel like every room and fight is the exact same, and more meaningful upgrades for that same reason. Just something to make every run feel unique, other than what I manually choose to bring. Half of the fun of this genre is the unpredictability!

I enjoyed the game for the style, Gameplay felt great and even though i play on controller the game was a smooth enjoyable time with good levels of challenge.
As a preface, I am a 32 year old Christian man who does not enjoy the paganism filled hell spiral into, western society is embarked upon.
Though I did not actually look much into the story when going into the game as to not spoil anything for myslef, after clearing a dive... having the a run end with the character becoming what in history is the equivalent of a south american form of Lucifer... left a less than favorable taste in my mouth. I didn't enjoy the diver becoming evil incarnate on a throne of misery. That being said, the game is literally called Abyssus, so makes sense at the end.
I understand the whole seeking power, sons of son of god style drive for all power and status, I simply do not enjoy the soul sucking ending of a dive.
I look forward to another game by this dev team in the future, building off these skills and what they will continue working on here for a while.
If you have no desire to see an immoral ending besides what a fallen angels child or a satanic end game would be, then try another rouge-like shooter, but otherwise, the mechanics were great for the game and I hope for the betterment of the company in more ways than one. (future dev of the spirits and talents of the team).

Terrible. It's a clone of Gunfire Reborn but poorly designed. Its:
- Slow (2 runs, 1 hour. Including the tutorial I only got to the first miniboss, twice)
- Grindy (2 runs and I only unlocked a crappy amulet)
- Hard (2 runs and I keep dying on the first miniboss)
- Stingy (2 runs and I literally only picked up about 100 gold!)
- Bad Pacing (What's the gold for? who knows! 2 runs and no weapons, keys, shops, equipment, no secrets, no smashables except 1-2 gold vases every once in a while, etc)
- Boring (super repetitive, uninspired enemies. strafe and they don't hit you. Except the miniboss that lasers you from across the room)
- Bad Gunplay (You have a 40 round minigun as primary fire, and a heat-gated minigun as secondary fire. No more, no less)

Clicky Click Click. Jumpy Jump Jump. Dashy Dash Dash. Numbers appear on the screen and repeat repeat repeat. Do explosions or unloading a full clip of ammo into an enemy change their animations or patterns? Nope. Is combat soulless because you are just avoiding animations while aiming your animations at them without any feel for actually fighting? You better believe it. But hey if you do it 400 times in a row the numbers get higher and the animations might change. You still won't ever actually feel like you are fighting because bullets and bombs hitting you and bullets and bombs hitting them don't actually do anything. But look, numbers on the screen! The first challenging trope is sitting absolutely still on small floor plates so take away jumpy jumps and dashy dashes and you have to just sitty sit there taking damage. Die and repeat! Damn this game is boring

All Progress Lost
Played 3-4 rounds with my brother, with him as the host. Upon finishing our session, he quit, and as anyone would expect, I was sent back to the title screen. I clicked play, to check my build, but was back in the tutorial, and with no progress. Rough start to a game that I expected to play co-op. This game is mediocre AF as a single player game.

First let me say this is a good game, and I understand what they are trying to do. BUT! As a casual player, this is not for you. As a casual/solo player, this is definitely not for you. This game is for team players and people who are masochist. The game runs great. Looks great. Very interesting concept. Such potential. But for me, an above average casual, this is extremely difficult. This game does so much right but these things bother me. I'll try to continue but I don't know if I'll stick with it.
Complaints:
1. Reticle is hidden behind the muzzle flash with the beginning gun so I can't see if I'm hitting my target.
2. Unlocking weapons is impossible if you struggle with this difficulty
3. No difficulty settings, unless you want to make it harder.
4. Power ups are damn near meaningless.
5. Everything is a freaking grind. Everything! (I understand they want a long-lasting play but damn) Find the key. Kill 5 monsters while your barrel is overheated.
6. Extremely difficult starting, especially for solo players!
7. No aim down sight. 1 button is primary other (aim button) is secondary fire...weird
I'm giving it a thumbs down because they take some key choices away from the player.

Low effort fps Roguelite.
It has the visuals of Doom, but the gameplay of a 1 dollar meme game.
When normal Roguelites give you an upgrade per stage, this game decides to maybe give you an upgrade every 2 stages. Its possible to go 3 stages without a "blessing". It's basically vermintide/darktide, shitty weapons, no upgrades, 1 special with a bare minimal roguelite upgrade system. and this is it. which is a shame, because their game "sulfur" was pretty original and fun with a good chunk of content. this is another dogshit roguelite that feels like shit, but looks pretty.
2 outta 10, would not recommend. Go play Terminull or Gunfire Reborn

Has a critical case of the worst sin of this type of game : There isn't enough there to make it enjoyable at all to spend the time to presumably, maybe, if you're real lucky, would let you unlock the things that might make the game fun and interesting. I was extremely optimistic from the feel as I started moving and shooting, but then it was just a hollow, empty shell where an interesting shooter should be.

In its current state, it feels excessively RNG-dependant on whether or not you win. Most weapons do not hold their own past depth 7 (The boss at depth 8 is unfair to fight against, spamming the shit out of a pushing attack and making it feel BS), same with the essences. The apparent OETA (ONLY effective tatic available) is tentacle essense on the laser gun, because of how tanky enemies are late-game. Attacks past Depth 8 feel extremely hard to react to, especially against bosses and minibosses.
It doesn't feel like I'm skilled when I get past Depth 6. I feel lucky that RNG gave me the essence I need to be able to progress.
This isn't fun.

Boss mechanics are bullshit ( too fast with low cooldown between them)

Its alright. Enviorments are good, enemies are responsive, but someone get my characters some Js cause my man CANNOT JUMP with multiple enemies having shockwave attacks. Once past the first boss, there's so many enemies you dont even know where you get hit from and they hit like a truck. GL to all the grinders, i will be checking out

The 3rd area is far and beyond my favorite, mostly because level design gets shaken up with more prominent stage hazards and more interesting architecture.

Damn this game is boring

this game has the sauce. with more time to cook, i have no doubt it will reach great heights. as it stands, i think the $20 price tag is 100% worth it.

Charms are bad (legendery charms are realy good or op and others are meh to usless)
Meta progresion is ok but could be better and more
Blessings balance is bad( on some guns with some mods blessings are OP on most guns and mods under disappointing )
Boss mechanics are bullshit ( too fast with low cooldown between them)
In the end u go in and either u get the op combo or you are struggling.

Idk about the rest of the playerbase, but I haven't had issues with crashing. The issue is the game is just... eh? Reminds me of Witchfire, Quake, and gunfire. But holy cow they expect you to GRIND early on, but it is a roguelike.
