Aug 10, 2025 Luca is also shot in the abdomen and also has to be escorted on the back of a truck while Enzo (You) have to shoot from the back of the truck at any enemies getting close , the only difference of course were the ending of those missions but again i am saying they are very similar, not exactly the same. There is also a Race mission in both games that both are talked about as being super important to the Family, basically in both games the original Race Car Driver isn't able to race right before the race is about to start and the Main Character steps in to win the race for the family. Again not exactly the same especially knowing the in Mafia: Definitive Edition the driver was injured and in Mafia: The Old Country the driver gets too drunk but i'm sure you can see what i'm saying.

In all seriousness though, this game is superb so far. The prologue itself really sets the game up for greatness. I am already invested in these characters. The voice acting is top notch along with the graphics. I have experienced very minor performance issues (quick stutters and such). On a 1440p monitor with a 3080 GPU, I am running high settings with quality DLSS and am hitting about 80-90 fps pretty consistently. Overall, if you like Mafia and/or other third person linear action games, pick this one up. Obviously I'm not your mother and can't tell you what to do, but for $50 I think you're getting exactly what you payed for- A high quality game! Will update as I progress!
Update 1: Still really really good. The story is beautiful so far. If you liked the remake of Mafia 1, you'll love this one. Also since they commented, Official Mafia Team I have not seen one slice of Sicilian pizza yet- This is highly important.
Update 2: Ok now that I've sunk a good amount of hours, buy this game (Don't buy it for pizza though, you'll be severely disappointed)
Final Update: Finished it, wow- what an experience. Some may say the story is simple and predictable, I still found it engaging due to the wonderful characters and their voice actors. Gameplay was fun in my opinion, and the enemy AI had me on my toes a lot! The ending is an ending... that is all I will say about that!
***There was in fact no Sicilian pizza in sight. Hanger 13 unfortunately failed the pizza check***
All in all, get this game. See ya'll for "Mafia The New Country" <3

Extremely poor performance, even with frame gen on performance my 4090 only gets 40-50 FPS, very poorly optimized like most game releases in 2025. Cyberpunk 2077 runs and looks 10x better with Ultra, Psycho Ray tracing enabled on my setup than this game does. Wait for performance fixes before buying.

I'm a huge fan of the original Mafia 1 and 2 and it's almost painful to see how the slop of the modern gaming is destroying all my favourite franchises.
I knew that this game would never be as good as Mafia 1 made by the Illusion Softworks, but it's even worse than I expected.
The intro is really boring and for a second I felt like I was playing an Uncharted game instead of Mafia.
The story is very cliche and predictable.I'm gonna get into the specifics at the very end of the review because I don't want to spoil the game but to sum it up in simple terms:
I was hoping for an immersive and tense filled experience that would give me a look into the Mafia world in Sicily, but do you know what I got instead? A very generic Romeo and Julia Romantic love story that i've never asked for with very "safe writing" and it makes the game really boring.
So what about the gameplay?
Unfortunately it doesn't get any better.
I've played on the hardest difficulty and the game is laughably easy, which wouldn't be that big of a problem if the AI wasn't so bad.I know that you don't play these games for a challenge but the enemies will literally stick out their heads while they are in cover so that you can conveniently shoot them and if that wasn't enough they will constantly yell at you to inform you when they are charging at you. Also they are very kind to inform you that they are reloading.Sometimes you can just camp behind the wall and wait for them to charge at you and you can just kill them one-by one using this method.
And on top of everything else this game has an Xray vision which allows you to see all your enemies at all times,...Can somebody explain to me why every modern game must have this brain dead immersion-breaking feature?I know that you can always make an argument "just don't use it" and yes I've stopped using it,but it still makes me annoyed that it is in the game.
Ok,... I'm gonna point out some positives now,so that this review is not just a rant.
The game ran very well on my 3070 and i7 on high settings in 1080p.Stable 60FPS and NO BUGS whatsoever. I think that deserves a big thumbs up,especially in this day and age.
I've really enjoyed the "knife fights'.On the highest difficulty these fights are very tense and dodging/ parrying feels very satisfying.
The music is pretty good,..
And these are pretty much all the positives that I have to point out.
SPOILER ALERT----------------------------------
Now I would like to explain some of my dissatisfactions with the story early in the game.
There is a mission where you are going to the horse race and when I heard that Don Torrisi REALLY cares about the outcome of this race I knew pretty much immediately that something is gonna happen to the main racer and I'm gonna be the one who has to race. And guess what? That's exactly what happened. The main guy got drunk and couldn't race so I had to do that Instead.THANK GOD the race wasn't as annoying as the fairplay in Mafia 1.
And now that I think about it,this mission is almost identical to the Fairplay when it comes to story telling. You win the race and steal the heart of Isabella which is Don's young daughter.
And that's not the only mission that is similar to some of the Mafia 1 missions. There is another one which is pretty much a copycat of "Ordinary Routine" where you ride around the map with your pals collecting money for Don Torrisi's protection and at some point something goes wrong just like in Mafia 1.I know that to some people this might seem as an exaggeration but I think that this is just a lazy writing. It's the 1900s in Sicily and you couldn't come up with something more original than basically copying two missions from Mafia 1?After a really long intro, this just rubbed me the wrong way.
Anither issue that I have with the game is it's linearity.Yes I know that this is a linear story driven game but come-on I can't even take a couple of meters from the intended path to look for a loot, because it immediatelly starts a countdown and you have to return back to the mission area? Also why are you putting collectibles to the game where you can barely look around? I have to spend time figuring out what is the designed mission area and what is considered "too far" everytime I'm looking for loot/collectibles.
In conclusion this game is just boring and not worth 50eur/whatever currency you're using. You're gonna beat it in 10/15 hours and you will never come back, because there's pretty much 0 replayability.
Buy it 5 years later when it's gonna be on sale for 10 bucks and don't make the same mistake as I did.
If you like the game, good for you,..I wish I could feel the same.

Denuvo Anti-tamper is killing this game.
I have a state of the art PC.
Specs:
CPU: i9-14900KS 6.20GHz 24 cores/32 Threads.
GPU: Geforce RTX 3070Ti 8GB VRAM.
RAM: 128GB DDR4.
SSD 2TB
Yet even with this my PC crashes all the way down to 12fps in some cutscenes which is incredibly bad.
Remove Denuvo or this game will not succeed.
4/10
EDIT:
Gotta love the attempted coping from crying losers who can't handle reality trying to add me on here to spew their brain rotting nonsense.
The game needs Denuvo gone.
It's very simple, if you're too stupid to not know what it does to your games, you're clearly not intelligent enough to have a conversation with me.

I was a huge fan of the original Mafia games so I was excited to try this one. First two hours of a supposedly ten'ish hour game were unbelievably slow and boring. I have to assume it picks up at some point -- but considering I'm, allegedly, nearly 20% done with the story and I've enjoyed watching paint dry more than I've enjoyed playing this game, I decided to request a refund. Cinematic experiences ran like absolute crap with my 3070, the rest of the game ran OK for the most part with some noticeable slow downs depending on environment. Definitely needs additional optimization.

The main character of the game is Enzo. The protagonist grew up working in a sulfur mine, and his search for a better life led him into the arms of the criminal family of Don Torrisi, to whom he swears loyalty.
✅In my opinion, this is the best mafia game in terms of graphics, storyline, and soundtrack.
✅I highly recommend playing with the Sicilian dubbing
✅What deserves the most praise (inspired by Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2) is the horse riding — shooting from horseback is epic and very similar to RDR2. I really missed that <3
✅The story starts off very calm, but with each mission the tension rises, and there are lots of unexpected moments
✅The graphics are beautifully done with clear attention to detail — from characters to cities, even the sky
✅The game length is perfect, not too long nor too short — about 12 to 20 hours depending on your pace
✅Great knife combat system (5 different combos)
✅Decent shooting system (each difficulty level changes the feel a bit, so everyone should adjust it to their liking)
✅A world dripping with the climate of Sicily from the beginning of the 20th century
✅During some missions when we have to travel far, we can skip conversations and get straight to the location (I dont recommend this because the game is especially based on the story)
✅Good and smooth cover system
✅I was positively surprised by the linear story collectibles (newspapers, letters, holy cards)
✅Amulets found in the game give additional perks
✅From the very beginning and throughout the story — and best of all after finishing the story — we can freely explore the world
✅Two types of weapons: shotguns and pistols, with new weapons unlocking as the story progresses
✅The atmosphere is amazing, especially in the later stages of the game
✅Cars like from the classic good mafia games
✅Good car physics (the car handling is somewhat similar to GTA IV)
✅Great soundtrack that perfectly fits each situation
✅The game is worth the price on Steam
✅❌A linear world with an emphasis on the plot without an open world — everyone has to decide if this type of game suits them.
❌There were some bugs where I was levitating through NPCs :D (happened 3 times but didn’t affect gameplay negatively)
❌Sometimes when I wanted to buy an amulet or better weapon, I couldn’t approach the weapons dealer because the game forbade leaving the mission area. I think they could add a virtual store to buy items after missions
❌The game could use better optimization
✅✅✅ Verdict: Excelent

We’re so Back! in the Family Business
The game drops you into a cinematic mob world where loyalty, betrayal, and cold-blooded crime fuel the story. I was surprised by how immersive it felt. There’s a quiet tension in every mission and every conversation. It plays like a love letter to classic Mafia tales, complete with shootouts, sit-downs, and street-level drama. We are so back! the game nails the mob movie vibe with story-heavy choices, old-school charm, and atmosphere that pulls you right into the family. The Good
1) Voice acting is sharp and believable, giving characters real weight and personality. 2) The city feels alive. Simple in design but packed with atmosphere and old-world charm. 3) Choices matter. You’re not just shooting your way through. Your decisions shape who trusts you and who wants you gone. 4) The soundtrack sells it. Jazz, tension, and ambiance all carry that Mafia movie energy. 5) Story pacing hits the mark. It's not bloated. Just tightly focused on mob drama and power plays. **The Not-So-Good
1) Animations can be a little stiff. It’s not AAA polished but it gets the job done. 2) Combat is serviceable. Some might want a bit more depth or weight behind it. 3) It’s more story than sandbox. Don’t expect GTA-style freedom. This is more like a playable mob movie.Overall Thoughts
This one surprised me. If you're into slower, story-heavy experiences where choices actually carry weight, Mafia: The Old Country is worth your time. It’s not flashy. But it knows exactly what it wants to be and delivers. The gritty storytelling, sharp writing, and classic mob feel kept me locked in from start to finish.Worth Buying if you're a Fan!

Let me be brutally honest here: Mafia: Old Country is not just a letdown for me — it’s a slap in the face to anyone who’s ever played the original Mafia game and had high hopes for this one.
Yes, the graphics are decent, but that’s literally the only thing this game has. Everything else? There isn’t anything.
Who thought it was a good idea to call this a Mafia game? What does that Santa Barbara romance drama have to do with the mob, tradition, or anything remotely connected to the franchise? It’s like they slapped a “Mafia” sticker on a generic walking sim and called it a day. This must be a joke.
The original Mafia (2002) was gritty, atmospheric, and immersive. It had real stakes, believable characters, and a story that left a mark. Now we’re in 2025, and we get this? With all the tools and creative power available today, this feels like a rushed student project — and not a good one, except gfx.
It genuinely feels like a solo effort made with Unreal 5 after a few YouTube tutorials. And speaking of effort — I couldn’t help but notice some assets, like the cloth rags draped over walls when climbing, seem to be straight out of Mafia: Definitive Edition or at least very similar. There are other reused elements too. So how much of this game is just a copy-paste job? Was playing DE before and after so i noticed actually quite a lot similarities, not that it's i bad thing, i just mean... 2025, possibilities.
And the gameplay? There basically is none. Twelve hours (my 18 comes from it running background — but I had it running while writing this). The AI is laughable — enemies just stand around like statues. “Hard mode” just means you press E a few more times between admittedly nice-looking cutscenes.
I hit “Mission 5 – Vendetta d’Onore” and was still waiting for the story to start. Later at some point in game when it finally seemed like something might happen — it ended. Fourteen missions total. That’s your whole game? These should’ve been the intro missions to join the family, not the entire campaign.
There’s no depth. No stakes. No soul. Just walking between markers and pressing E. Not even DLC was necessary.
This isn’t just a bad game — it’s an empty shell pretending to be part of a legendary franchise. It’s baffling, disappointing, and honestly insulting.
I want it off my library. Permanently.

Become Enzo, a slave boy taken in by the Family, and watch (Literally), him make every stupid decision possible in this movie adaptation of a video game.
✔️ This game looks amazing, Graphically.
✔️ The Music is fantastic.
✔️ Nails the Godfather Vibe.
❓The First 2 hours start out great. Then this takes the biggest cliff dive i have ever seen in a video game.
❓ Its Short, your looking at 10-15 Hours max, and has very little re-play value or reason to explore. Some people like shorter games so ill put this as a ❓.
❌ This is not a game, this is a beautifully rendered cut-scene with sprinkles of game-play between them.
❌ The game-play is so generic, basic, and unsatisfying it is actually worse than Mafia 1; 25 Years ago.
❌ The Story is simply too bland, its way to obvious whats going to happen, nothing is clever, its poorly written, generic and disappointing.
❌ To many stupid plot armour points, bad guys will throw down their guns to knife fight you with "honour" instead of killing you outright, this will happen multiple times in the story and the knife duels are really basic, repetitive "boss battles".
❌ Gunplay is dreadful, not only are there like 6 guns (Because its set in 1901) So dont expect much, they all handle like shit (like guns in 1901 did), but the real killer here is how bad the AI are. They will run into the open, shouting "im out of ammo", "Im reloading", "I cant see him" constantly, like there is a magnet pulling them to you, the Ai is really bad.
❌ The ratio of game-play to cut-scenes is like 25 - 75%, this feels like a movie, not a video game.
❌ Price is way too high, if you like VERY cut-scene heavy story games, or are a total nerd for Mafia stuff you might enjoy this, Personally this is my biggest regret buy of 2025 so far.

Since Mafia was always about the story, this one did not disappoint. Yes, it’s a semi open world and there are a few issues here and there with some optimization problems. But the love story… it held me hooked until the very last moment..
I grew up chasing stars across the sea,
Thought America was where I’d have to be.
Yet life had other plans prepared for me,
And chained my path with no H1B !!
Sooner, I realised through a friend of mine,
That dreams aren’t bound by places or lines!
That fire inside us all burns the same,
And it can grow through any f*#king lane //
But along the road, stories found me too,
One of love so deep it changed my view.
Oh, dear Enzo, I am so sorry…
Losing you left a pain in my chest,
and I wish I could have taken your place.
I wish I could find you in my own life too,
and have the family we dreamed to embrace.
I will miss you, always.
And thank you for making me learn that.
It’s not the land that lifts us high,
But dreams & will that won’t let me die.
I see it now that the choice is mine,
To shape my fate in colors I define.

The gameplay feels like a mix between the classic Mafia style and modern stealth games like Assassin’s Creed. There are a few chapters with decent shooting, but most of it is made up of straightforward stealth missions. And of course, it wouldn’t be Mafia without a couple of frustrating races with questionable driving mechanics (almost gave up on the second one).
The main thing holding everything together is the story—it has some strong moments but ultimately falls flat. My advice: wait for a 50% discount and for them to fix the graphical glitches, stuttering, and average performance.
This isn’t the game I was hoping for. Why make a huge “open world” if you can’t explore it freely or even go buy upgrades from a store? I couldn’t bring myself to finish after chapter 13.

Let me get straight to the point: I strongly recommend you skip this game and save your money. Despite pre-ordering with high hopes, my experience was a lesson in frustration, primarily due to technical issues that are simply unacceptable.
The main culprit is the abysmal performance. This might be the most poorly optimized game released this year that I have experienced first hand at least. On the developer's own website, they claim a 4070 GPU is needed for 'Epic' settings. However, my AMD RX 9070 XT, a significantly more powerful card, struggles to maintain a stable 60 FPS. This isn't a bug on the user's end; it's a fundamental flaw in the game's design. To make matters worse, the game forces players to use upscaling and frame generation. Why? One can only assume it's because, without these crutches, the game would run at a slideshow-like 15 FPS. Forcing these settings on players should not be normalized. The fact that the game runs on Unreal Engine 5 and utilizes Denuvo might explain some of these deep-rooted performance problems.
Even if you could look past the technical disaster, the core game is disappointingly weak. The story is slow to start and fails to build any real momentum. Based on what I played and watched online (As I refunded the game and watched the rest online to see the gameplay and story little more), the narrative concludes after a brief 10-hour runtime, leaving little lasting impact. The gameplay offers nothing new, relying on basic and uninspired mechanics we've all seen before. To top it off, the English voice acting is jarring, with accents that feel completely out of place for the game's setting.
It is impossible to defend this level of poor performance. No player should have to spend their hard-earned money on a product that feels unfinished and requires them to rely on upscaling just to be playable. Do yourself a favor and wait for a deep, deep sale or better yet, just play something else.
Here is a youtube link showing the bad perfomance the guy goes below 60 fps even: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKeNVU5GCgk

THIS IS NOT WHAT YOU'RE EXPECTING
Mafia: The Old Country in my experience has got to be probably the worst in the series, some of it has to do with the mechanics but the story is what really messes it up.Story Line
The story for Mafia: the Old Country is a bit similar to Mafia 1, i know it might sound like a stretch but honestly i cant look past it. To start, in both games you play as a character that joins a Family where you climb the ranks and later on has to go against the Family due to some secrets. But not only is the story line a little similar, but some of the missions are basically the same, if you remember, in Mafia: Definitive Edition , Chapter 3 "A Trip to the Country" Involves Sammy getting shot in the Abdomen and having to hop in the back of a truck shooting cops from the back of the truck as Paulie and Tommy escort Sam to a doctor, In Chapter 10 in Mafia: The Old Country "Mattanza"Missions
So the story line is a little wacky but the missions were just so un-Mafia like that it just felt like i was playing Assassins Creed and not a Mafia game, and if you disagree with this take you probably forgot that they literally gave Enzo Eagle Vision . basically the entire game you're sneaking around getting knife kills, of course there are some missions where you're able to use your weapons and get into shoot outs but there are still missions in the game where you cant do that and you have to sneak around.Character Development
Enzo was for sure not what i was expecting when i saw the cover art of Mafia: The Old Country. Enzo is only 20 years old in the game, i believe, and boy do they make him act like a dumb teenager, throughout the game he's just getting handled by anyone he fights, he's either getting beat or just gets out smarted in the dumbest way possible. For example in the mission where you're dueling Damiano Bustoni you would think that after everything he put Enzo through that he would get his revenge by ending him when he had the chance, but somehow Enzo ends up with an object through his leg and is almost ended by Damiano Bustoni, only for Luca to shoot Damiano Bustoni, saving Enzo and stealing his revenge. (and for some reason you get a badge that says Enzo gets his revenge). I never once got that feeling that Enzo was a savage that's doing what he thinks is good for the family. Enzo is still a really cool character but i was hoping he would be some Lupara wielding DEMON that would build a name for himself that everyone feared, but that wasn't the case sadly.Mechanics
The Combat Mechanics actually aren't bad, they're really smooth and simple, the only complaints i have about the Combat Mechanics come from the Dueling, sometimes you'll parry or dodge and somehow Enzo will still get sliced, and the Dueling is also very slow like they last forever. The Driving in this game is so annoying i wouldn't even want to replay any of the missions that involve chases in vehicles. I get that the time period of the game is in the early 1900s so the vehicles are supposed to act accordingly but man if you even slightly turn at full speed your car is just going to spin out. During some of the chase missions there were so many times where my car spun out, lost control, and ran right into a wall and when i tried to reverse the car it would struggle so bad that by the time i would finally reverse and get back on track, the mission would fail because i lost whoever i was chasing. Conclusion
I would NOT recommend paying for this game at full price, definitely wait for some sort of discount if you really want to play it. Or if you want to take a gamble to see if maybe your experience might be different from mine then go ahead! but if you're a really big fan of the Mafia Series you might not get the same Mafia feeling you got in the rest of the games.17 votes funny
