I am black and my wife is white. She ran around the entire first chapter hitting me with a whip and calling me the "n" word. It didn't get any better when the "colored character" as she calls her, turned into a monkey. We enjoy playing this game a lot. 10/10 would live like it's 1790 again.

I really enjoyed the journey trough this game. If u like SciFiction/Cyberpunk - play this game. If u like fantasy - play this game. If u like lil riddle's - play this game. If u have a friend/lover/smth else u like to play with - play this game. I didn't think the developers could top the previous games (it takes two/a way out), but for ME, they did. Like. This game was soooooo good, i wasnt bored for a single second, it brings so much fun. I also really liked all the easter eggs and secret things u can find (or we found, we missed some shit, but we will catch up), like the Dark Souls bonfire, really cool! The graphics/The world was also very stunning, like, i made many screenshots. My Fantasy/Scifiction heart melted. (also my nerdy book heart melted) So yeah, this coop masterpiece is 100% recommended by me, play it! :) Ps: F*ck this Laser Hell secret level

By far THE best couch co-op game ever made. It's packed with surprisingly fresh design for the industry. I bet this game will win GOTY 2025. Period.

This is not online multiplayer. It is STRICTLY Co-op. I pre-purchased this game thinking there was some matchmaking feature. Don't get fooled. It's not online multiplayer. Kinda sucks that they'd reduce their player count for no reason.

As a writer, I have to say with a heavy heart that this game is a prime example of what not to do when it comes to storytelling. There is no causality between the "scenes", and we go aimlessly from area to area. The characters intrinsically know what to do next and we are just strung along. Say it for the cheap seats: "Scene B" should be happening because of "scene A" and not after "scene A". As a result, the story feels lifeless, and the gameplay is only fun for so long. As the game progresses, the characters also lose more and more of their personality, which makes it incredibly difficult to emphasise with them. Zoe... just shut up. But hey, my partner really enjoyed playing this, and we will continue playing it. It's OK here and there, but that's it. No substance, no suspense, and no fun. If they want to keep players around, these game studios will need to step up their storytelling. So hire BETTER WRITERS.

Man there really is no studio like this one. You can tell how passionate they are for that co-op experience. No microtransactions, a Friend's Pass that lets someone play with you for free, and a track record of great games. They really understands what makes couch co-op special. It's so refreshing to see a studio that has a clear vision that prioritizes making great games instead of trying to nickel and dime their customers. God bless Hazelight for keeping co-op alive.

Honest review by the review warlord: Art: 9.4/10 Polishness: 9.8/10 Gameplay: 9.4/10 Story: 6.3/10 Music/voice acting: 8.8/10 Overall: 9/10 The game is a genuine blast to play with someone and reminds you what a fun game feels like. It's very creative and also integrates other game genres with a twist. Every time I was surprised by the new mechanics and it didn't stagnate at all. The fact that you buy the game for two is very nice too. I hope to revisit the title some day, well done. Super R, X

Great story, fun mechanics, solid sound design, the list goes on. Pretty much a beefed up version of it takes two, and it completely smashes it. 9/10 because I have to see the EA logo when I launch the game.

I really wanted to love this game and it's clear I'll be in the minority. But this games writing is ATROCIOUS. For a HEAVILY story based game, this writing feels like the first draft of an idea and not of really anything fleshed out. For comparison in It Takes Two, the different "worlds" are based around the foundation of Love, and in each world the characters work on that foundation or quality and the abilities they have in the world sort of reflect that. In A Way Out, the location are just the progression of their escape story, makes sense. In It Takes Two, there's also memorable NPC's both good ones that help you and ones you end up fighting against, as well as sections of the world you can interact with and play games and just mess around with items (which you can also do in A Way Out), there's just really great world building in general. And gradually through the story you get to learn a little more about the characters and they type of relation they currently have while also repairing it! HOWEVER, in Split Fiction, these character don't know each other, and for the most part we don't learn anything about them. We're halfway through the game and one character has just refused to share anything until just recently. The conversations the characters have between each other are more or less pointless banter or quippy nonsense. Other than that, one character refuses to talk about her life while the other repeats the same ONE thing about her life. As for the worlds, they're just, worlds. There's no well designed or memorable NPCS, and there was ZERO sections to interact with the world and use items or play games for fun until ONE area somewhere 6-7 hours in (and ONE interactive item every three hours does not count, there were way more interactive games/sections in the other games). Split Fiction has more or less been a fast paced terribly written linear story game, with just as much platforming as there is "falling from the sky scenes", and not a lot of puzzles. There's nothing to care about in the worlds and even less the characters you play as 😭. I used keyboard for previous games such as It Takes Two and A Way Out and I had minimal to no problems at all, but in this game its CONSTANT issues. Sure it's visually interesting but this story does not hook you or progress well at all like its previous successors. Edit: I also wanted to add the MOST confusing and terribly planned button prompt of a boss fight I have ever dealt with, me and my partner genuinely thought we were hard locked out of finishing the game. In one of the near end boss fights there's a button mashing prompt that shows up for both players. Spoilers While fighting Dark Mio, normal Mio hacks into her mind to help Zoe in the fight. HOWEVER when the killing prompt shows up for what I though was both characters working to kill Dark Mio from the outside and inside, is NOT the case. The Mio player MUST NOT do the prompt and ONLY Zoe must kill Dark Mio. Why show the prompt if the Mio Player is not to do anything? Why show Mio literally hacking into this characters mind and controlling it and have that NOT be the case in the finale killing? Doesn't make any sense. Not even story wise.

I want to play on my own and not be forced or managed to partner up with someone. We all want to dip our toes in and explore the game before being forcibly committed to friends pass. I can only think that this is a highjack game to force players to spend real money on buying virtual ingame items. I'm going right back to delete Split Fiction.

You’re two authors stuck in your own story, switching between dragons and lasers, fantasy and sci-fi and somehow a dance battle. I don’t know who wrote this plot, but they need a raise. “You go left.” “I am going left!!” — actual quote before we both fell into the void. Overall this game is: 50% puzzles 50% chaos 100% blaming your friend for things you also did wrong Final Thoughts: 10/10 Saved the universe. Still blaming each other.

EA: "Do you want this game to be Fantasy or Sci-Fi?" | Josef Fares: "...BOTH"

Split Fiction is one of those rare gems that truly surprises you. It makes you laugh, then catches you off guard, then squeezes your heart in the most unexpected ways. And the ending? Just mind-blowing. Over 20 years of nerding experience and still, it had me frozen like a rock in front of the screen... split screen, of course. And the brilliant part? You only need one copy to play it fully co-op with a second player. Yes, you heard that right: one purchase, two hearts (or two shared brain cells, depending on who you’re playing with). So do yourselves a favor. Get it. Call someone you care about (or someone you just barely tolerate) and play it together. You won’t regret it. DISCLAIMER: I take no responsibility for any friendships or relationships that may end because of this game.

It's quite hard to believe a story about an evil company stealing ideas, when the ideas they're trying to steal are absolute dross.

Hazelight are the kings of the gaming industry now. Sorry Rockstar. It Takes Two and now Split Fiction are the 2 greatest co-op games ever created. And one of the most creative, passionate, and innovative games OF ALL TIME. Absolute 10/10 perfection. And not only do Hazelight make the best games in the world, they are also very consumer friendly with their practices. So Ws all around.
