Tales of Xillia RemasteredTales of Xillia Remastered
The only reason I do not recommend this game is because of the censorship. I was so so happy to hear they were actually remaking this for pc. I've been waiting for years for them to do this because this has been my very first Tales game and I fell in love with it when I got it for the PS3 a long time ago. I absolutely loved it. Now after learning they censored this amazing game, I am crushed. The game is good otherwise though, but this is not the original I fell in love with. But this censorship has got to stop. If someone doesn't like something, they don't have to buy it. Censorship only hurts the world. I do not support a company that doesn't have a backbone to keep things original. I am devastated that they have done this. If I made a game, I would never censor it because that would be highly unfair to all the loyal fans. It's a game. It's not real. If people don't like it, they don't have to play it, but I would never stoop so low as to censor things, especially if I remade my game and *took out* some things that were in the original. That is doing the fanbase and Xillia wrong. That is desecrating Xillia. Such disrespect to this beautiful game. Shame on you guys, smh. It's sad that all of these companies that I used to love has gotten so greedy and awful over the years. I wish I was back in time. I was so excited for this game, now I just feel really upset. You've ruined my nostalgia on this amazing game. Shame on all of you who did this to such an amazing classic. Do better. We do not need censorship. You start censoring one thing then eventually people will want even more things censored and so on and so on. It's not right. I would have never bought this game if I had known beforehand. I would have bought the PS3 version and enjoyed that instead. The pure, *original* amazing game. Not this sad censored flop. Adding quality of life stuff and adding new things is fine, but taking away things that have already been in the original game is wrong. This is not the Xillia I fell in love with. I'm still going to play this since I don't want to waste my money, but it's not going to be as fun for the nostalgia, which is one of the biggest reasons why I got it. [EDITING TO SAY THAT THEY DO HAVE THE OPENING, YOU JUST HAVE TO GET THROUGH THE PROLOGUE LIKE I THOUGHT, SO DISREGARD THIS ONE. I AM SO HAPPY THEY STILL HAVE THE OPENING THEME! :D) It doesn't even show the amazing opening that the original had. I am hoping that is because I just haven't gotten through the beginning part of the story cuz I know sometimes they wait to show the opening after you play the prologue. I hope I'm wrong, because I would sit and just jam to that opening every time I turned the game on. I need the opening back, I need my Alvin fix before the game even starts, dang it, lol. I *DO* recommend this game for the old consoles though. The original Xillia is amazing and worth going to a pawn shop to find a PS3 for the uncensored original masterpiece. If you love anime, you'll love playing this. I hope anyone reading this has a good day/night and have fun playing games. <3 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Editing again to add this to the review to reply to all the comments so far since this is way too long to send through normal reply. So you don't have to read this part if you don't want to for the review. :) My comment will be split since it's so long, but thank you to everyone that actually knows how to go Google the stuff yourself and were nice. The ones that threw insults and hate around and were quick to judge, shame on you. If people had an iota of a brain cell and just Googled it, you would see what they censored. It's nothing so vile as what some of you had said. You guys need therapy if that's what's on your mind and the first thing to think of when you failed to go do your own research. This is what spreads hate around and it's not nice to do. It's sad that someone like me with autism is smarter than someone who is normal. Even I thought to Google it myself once I saw someone say something about it being censored. It's sad that AI and stuff like ChatGPT is making the human race go backwards in intelligence. I went and did my own research like a logical person because there is so much misinformation these days online that you literally cannot trust a lot of what people say. Get on actual web pages too, the AI overview loves to be inaccurate quite a bit. Hence the misinformation crisis. I don't want anyone to get the wrong information on anything. You guys deserve the real information. So I implore you from now on to just research yourself on things people say. Do not take anyone for their word. It's how a lot of people spread so much hate around on the internet, because they know that a lot of people will not go do their own research, so when people in the comments try to tell them the correct information, they will get angry and just dismiss them a lot of the time. So please do your own research, that is why I didn't list what they censored. I wanted you to go research and see for yourselves, not just to believe what I say. Remember, my review is my *opinion*, not *fact*. :) This is what makes the world be against one another. We should all get along and just calmly discuss things, not throw around insults or judging someone. This world has gotten so corrupt and it's sad. I still forgive everyone for saying such bad things though. We only have one life and life is short. We don't know for sure if there is anything after this life, so we should be kind to each other and stop all the hatred. It's tiring being angry all of your life and it's tiring to hate forever. I'd rather be friends. I will stand up for myself though but other than that I harbor no ill feelings towards any of you. <3 Sorry this is so long. The autism tends to make me write a novel at times, to my best friend's dismay lol. I hope everyone has a good day/night and remember to be kind to one another and spread kindness when possible. The world needs more kindness in it, especially these days. And also remember that I said the game was still good, hence why I am still playing it. I still love it. The only buffoons around here are the ones that got beat by an autistic tit by not doing their own research when I did mine. Still forgive you though, just make sure to read carefully next time and not to judge and be so hateful to one another. :) Context is important. Remember, if y'all really didn't care, y'all would just move on instead of wasting your time commenting. But I care about people being kind to one another, so that's why I care to comment. I want to help people, even you. <3

The audio has a bug where it gets randomly distorted. I'm not even out of Fenmont and it happened 3 times now. If you decide to do a remaster, then do a proper job with it. The shader is extremely weird, too. There is a clear block outline on character faces, making it feel super blurry on the field. There're also multiple people complain about the unbalance audio as well but I won't get into details here. I asked for a refund now and won't come back until I know the bugs are resolved. It's a shame I love this game in the original one and this is so disappointing. Stop publishing half-baked games, feels so disrespected.

Because I saw some misinformation, I’m writing this review. Some people complain about missing VSync or graphics options, but you can actually access them from the main menu. Go to New Game, progress through the grade shop, and press Start Game. Then you’ll find an Options menu — scroll down until you see Graphics Settings. You can also access this menu anytime after loading your save file. I don’t know why the developers set it up this way — it’s a poor design choice — but the graphics settings do exist. A proper review of the game’s quality will come once I finish it. So far, it works fine.

This annoys me a bit, and it may come off as insincere, seeing as I still plan to play this game for many many many hours as I complete it, as I did back when it was released on the PS3... But "no", I don't think I can recommend this in good faith. I’ll kindly leave out my six page diatribe on how anime is the worst thing and ruins all it touches, but something about this remaster caught my attention: The performances seem very... stilted. And I don’t remember the original being that way, so I went ahead and booted it up to check: And yes, there is definitely something wrong going on here. The scenes don’t flow as well, there seems to be added space between each animation. I don’t know exactly how to describe it, but it’s like, an animation plays, then the characters will say their lines, but then the state gets “suspended” for a second as it seems to load the next animation? It’s very awkward and it makes for performances that I remember (and checked) feeling very natural (for anime standards) to something that is kind of hard to watch since it both sounds and looks super unnatural. I also don’t feel like the added graphical fidelity is doing the game any favors? Because the models haven’t really been updated as far as I could tell, and the upgraded textures feel... a bit mismatched? I don’t think it looks any better than the original, and coupled with the above issue with animation times, I’d argue that it both looks worse and feels worse to watch. There are also many bugs with sound, though I haven’t caught many of these, I think. In my perception, the game seems to be a bit quiet outside of battles, but fine inside them. I could swear that some areas were supposed to have music but have only silence. Some of the voice lines seem to play too softly, but it’s nothing game-breaking. I’ve read on the forums people complaining of the exact opposite problem, of battle sounds being too quiet. Something else you can read about in the forums are tons of reports on people having framerate issues which extrapolate to other areas of the game, like skits being impossible to trigger or visual effects looking off. There are definitely a lot of problems with the port. On a “meta” note: Achievements may or may not be bugged, or at least the global stats are very wrong, as it shows 100% of people having the achievement for completing the game. I’ve played for 10 hours so far and haven’t unlocked anything. Though I’ve seen reports that the achievements themselves are not broken, they are all just relatively late unlocks, which I don’t remember being true on the PS3, but it’s been a while, so I’m willing to believe it but also willing to write up this paragraph, in case someone that also cares might stumble upon it. EDIT: I managed to get some achievements and the global stats have normalized. So... No. I would not recommend this. Play the original if you can, but if not... I’d very honestly say to just let it go and not bother… Maybe try Berseria? People say good things about that one. The gameplay in Xillia is very good. It was very good on release and it continues to be very good now; considering the Tales games I’ve played, I think this is the one where the fights feel the most enjoyable. But the narrative, as it is, is a bit of a bog to trudge through, sadly.

The one positive I can say about this game is that it's probably the first technically stable Tales of release for PC to date. I still had problems with one particular scene I was forced to skip and I haven't originally played the PS version of the game so I don't have comparisons. But it ran well at 4k120 so sure? As for being a Tales of game itself, it's honestly the weakest game from what I've played. And basically everything I've played is now on PC, GameCube, or Xbox. So I've been excited to play a PlayStation exclusive game but it was disappointing. This game flips back and forth between comedy and trying to be serious at every corner. I couldn't take the story seriously for a second. It was simply goofy and weird. The voice acting was of no particular help either. Any other Tales of game I can easily go between English and Japanese and be fine with it. In this game I hated both. Jude in Japanese is such a weak character for how strong his fists are. Milla in English sounds like she's talking to a microphone from 10 feet away. The dang puppet Teepo is so annoying in both, but hearing it in Japanese made the English one sound perfectly okay. I actually no longer have an issue with English Teepo if that's what I was going to get in JP. The Gameplay itself was also a different experience. There's no real hunting for rare weapons. You grind for materials, level up shops, and after many hours you just have the best items in the game. It was uneventful and boring. I'm glad this feature didn't make it to other Tales games. The combat was actually okay. It actually plays better than Tales of Zestiria which is what I believe is the next game with a similar combat system. But the skill "tree"? "flower"? was an odd mechanic but probably felt better than having to spam a specific arte x number of times and reach y level to unlock the next level arte. I don't know if I like or dislike it. I don't like having to make decisions every time I level up so I guess I'm against it. The world itself felt very small. It looked liked they wanted to compensate for that by making areas wide with a lot of dead ends or loops just for gathering materials. But honestly, with nothing unique to loot, going for all these chests was a waste of time. You get 1 mediocre boss fight to unlock for finding 16 orbs from these horrible loot chests and nothing worth my time to have beaten those bosses. There's also no end-game content to this. I think only like 1, sometimes 2 costumes to unlock. This Tales game does have fun weapons but are about 4th strongest and not that cool compared to other Tales games. This is the one game where, as I understand it, Xillia 2 saves the Xillia title. I've like every other Tales game, but this is the one I have to tell people to stay away from unless they bring us Xillia 2 to PC.

1. Too high framerate issues for shaders, animations, and sound effects. Feels like PCSX3 with badly configured 60fps patch. Framerate lock affects only the "presentation" FPS, not the "graphics logic" FPS. 2. No button prompt style selection, detection works only for XBOX One and DualSense controllers. 3. No sound cleanup. Even Jude sounds lisp at times, let alone Milla. 4. BGM pack tracks aren't leveled to the same volume. Music/sfx/voice balance is effectively thrown out of the window by this. (Some BGMs are locked behind sidequests and tied to attire). 5. LOD options are there, but those do *not* affect how far one should be for models to disappear. Yes, there's a differen't setting for the distance, but it doesn't seem to work. 6. Anti-aliasing options is there, but if you disable it, there's no way of re-enabling it. Because it remains off even though it says FXAA or SMAA. 7. In-menu character models are low-res and pixelated despite cranked up graphics settings. Same goes for the custop attachments setup screen. 8. F**d-up localizatrion fonts that look NOTHING like the original ones. 9. Infinite load times (a relauch fixes it) 10. Bloom and Gloom™ Instead of hi-res 11. Models rendering at PS3 quality with or without horrible shimmering and/or blurring Submitted a report on BAMCO's EU site on 11/05/25. They claim to get in touch within 24h window. Edit: BAMCO did get in touch and acknowleged the framerate issues only. 1. The fonts issues were disregarded (BAMCO didn't mention those in its reply at all). 2. Controllers issues were disregaded with an "only support these 3 models" type of reply. 3. Asked them to check the discussion boards (not expecting anything in here, really) Edit 2: Bamco said (not literally) this in a second email (had to poke them again): "We value your interest and got in tough with the developers, but cant promise anything. ... ... But we've heard your concerns! ... Best Regards!" Tales of Xillia may be the best RPG on Steam right now. Story and characters aside, which are both excellent, the gameplay loop of this game is infinitely satisfying. The battle system resembles a marriage between classic RPG elements and fighting games, making for a truly captivating system that is fun against low-level grunt monsters and absolutely exhilarating against thougher bosses as exploit weaknesses and string together deadly combos. Through battling, you naturally level up, which allows you to upgrade your Lillium Orbs. What are Lillium Orbs? The best Skill-tree I've ever seen in any game ever, that's what! Rather than a linear tree, where unlocking certain skills will enable you to level into new branches, Lillium Orbs are structured like a spider-web, which you fill out starting from the inside. If there's an attack or skill you don't consider useful for your build, you can simply elect not to unlock it and if there's one you absolutely must have, you can plan your point distribution accordingly to unlock it asap. It's a perfectly intuitive, flexible and addicting system that allows for truly unique builds and that I would wish to see become the norm for Skill Trees in video games. Another or Xillia's strengths is exploration. Every area from towns to dungeons to the fields connecting them, are filled with items to collect and beautiful sights to admire. Tales of Xillia is an absolute hidden gem, crafted to near perfection with game mechanics that are simple to understand, but that support and synergize with each other to create an overall experience that far exceeds the sum of its parts. Of course, being originally a PS3 game from 2011, the animations can be a bit stiff, the re-use of assets, particularly NPC models, and the audio quality of the voice acting can all feel a bit dated, but those who are able to look past these relatively shallow issues will find an incredibly well designed game with gameplay that more than holds up in 2025 and no doubt many years to come.

This port has a lot of problems Cant disable depth of field and bloom, game has a weird blur to it even with SMAA (and with special K not being on steam anymore chances of getting mods to remove this trash will be slim to none unlike graces F) The game already has Multiple Frame rate issues wtih 60 and 120 and looks horrible at 30, also the frame rate runs like RE4 HD which means if you set the game to 120 FPS and hit lets say 90 the game will run slower, oh and if you run the game at 120 Holy bottle breaks to be perm and skits take longer to appear Homies should had TOSE doing these

Beating the game 80 hours complete everything on hard difficult without a gradeshop on my first playthrough, this game is definitely my TOP 3 Tales of series. This is my 8th Tales of the Game. I really enjoyed this game, it was so much fun. Teepo is the best character in this game! LOL, he always makes me laugh. One of the funniest skits in the Tales series is when Milla asks Jude if he's direct-tethered with Muzet. HAHAH LOL Oh yeah don't play the game using 120fps, it broke the game still need to wait they fixed it.

The combat system in this game is old and clunky. Character movement is clunky. The game is old. This game may have been great 20 years ago, but today it's just a chore to play. To tell the truth, I haven't experienced much of the story, but I just can't get through the old timey mechanics. Why not play Tales of Berseria instead? If the developers were to give this game the "Trails in the Sky 1st" treatment, I'd pay full price for it. As it is, It's more of a re-release than a remaster.
