I was excited to play this. I purchased it and let it download. Then when it came time to play, I became stuck on a screen that said waiting for response from auth server. This is a single player completely offline game. Why does it need an auth server for anything?
Well, it turns out Sony wants you to create a PSN account in order to play this on your PC. Why? Good question. Well, because I wanted to play, I signed up for a PSN account. On the final step of account creation, I was told I needed to contact Sony support in order to finish creating my account. There was absolutely no information on how I was supposed to do that. I went to the Sony support site and there was literally no way to contact them anywhere on the site. I had to LLM it in order to get a support number because searching for one didn't yield any results either.
At this point I've been trying to figure out how to contact them for an hour. So I call the number and I am told that I need to call back within business hours. I check the time and the time they said they close is still 45 minutes away. That was the final straw. I uninstalled the game and refunded it.
Why do I have to create a PSN account in order to play an offline single-player PC game that I purchased on a PC game store? Why do I have to contact an uncontactable support chain in order to create that account? Why does creating the account make it mandatory that I enter detailed info like my city of residence and my ZIP code? It's like they don't want people playing this or something. This is asinine. How is creating a brand new blank PSN account going to verify or authenticate a single thing anyway? You want me to link a blank PSN account to my Steam account in order to play a game when you know full well I'm not going to use that PSN account for anything else ever, why? I shouldn't have to try to jump through hoops for hours and hours in order to even get to the title screen. I do not recommend this.

to God of War: Ragnarok Dev. Team,
I’m writing to bring to your attention an issue regarding the current PC port of God of War: Ragnarok that affects users with 4GB VRAM graphics cards. When attempting to launch the game on such systems, an error message is displayed, indicating that there is not enough VRAM, and the game closes without allowing users to proceed. It is my humble request to kindly reconsider or remove this VRAM limitation. From personal experience and community feedback, I can confirm that the game runs well on certain integrated graphics processors (such as the Ryzen 3 3200G, Ryzen 5 3400G, and Ryzen 7 5700G), which are generally weaker than many 4GB VRAM GPUs available today. God of War: Ragnarok performs on the base PlayStation 4, which further suggests that the game should be capable of running on 4GB VRAM graphics cards, and the latest Steam Hardware Survey shows that one of the most widely used graphics cards among gamers is the GTX 1650, which comes with 4GB of VRAM and is ranked within the top three most popular cards. Limiting access to such a significant portion of the player base can potentially prevent many from enjoying your incredible game. Removing or adjusting this VRAM limitation would greatly benefit the gaming community, ensuring that a larger audience can experience God of War: Ragnarok on PC!
EDIT : there’s a workaround and you can bypass this VRAM limit error by using a mod. ( MOD LINK : https://www.nexusmods.com/godofwarragnarok/mods/12?tab=files ) To install it, just drag and drop the files into the game's root folder, and the game should launch without any issues. It's unclear why Jetpack Interactive locked out 4GB VRAM cards, especially since the game runs just fine on them!

Ah yes, the Sad Dad Simulator. 10/10, can relate.
This game really makes you FEEL like a single but responsible and loving father.
What? What do you mean why did you just leave your real child alone in a cot so you could finally sit down in peace to play Gow? What are you trying to suggest?!
When I became a dad, l called my kid "Boy", even though she’s a girl.
Angry man swing axe make happy chemicals in brain.
An amazing dad and son simulator for those who’ve never had either.
…
I wish my dad loved me.
WARNING: This game can make you grow a beard!!!
... women can also be affected .
Absolutely couldn’t wait to play this. I have a great deal of emotional attachment for this franchise. I have been through a lot on a personal level and these games have been with me all the way. At this point, l've grown up with Kratos from my own childhood to now having a son of my own. But these type of games have helped me with my addiction so much. Being immersed in a game is not like being immersed in a movie. My whole mind and body is involved playing good games. I'm 10 years clean from addiction. Bodybuilding and gaming are my 2 biggest tools to stay away from that. So I have a lot of painful memories attached to this wonderful series and I knew playing this would most likely bring them back but at the same time they were the best times I ever had. I knew I had to play it and try to relive those happy times.
This game is so good that I ended up playing it for 9 hours straight the day I got it without even realizing it. I was so soaked up in the game and everything that I completely forgot about what time it was. It wasn’t until my wife’s boyfriend called me after satisfying my wife that I realized that it was nearly midnight. I looked at my phone and thought the clock was wrong. We need more games this good, why the hell have we not had great story driven games like this lately, what happened to creativity and making us engaged in the characters and world.
It deserves game of the f**king century. There were moments where I empathised with Kratos, and there were moments where I really could feel what Atreus felt. It’s just such an emotional game, both for the characters and the person playing it. I was in tears by the end, and I’m not someone who usually tears up at things. Plus going in completely dark was the best decision I ever made. This game was the chef's kiss of writing, gameplay, and presentation. Starting the series back in 2005 as a young teen, to finishing this latest installment as a middle aged man with a family it never got stale. The humor hit well with me, the sadness hit, the happiness hit, the angst... it all just hit so well. It specially hit hard when you have a son of your own. The voice acting was fantastic, I loved Ryan Hurst as Thor. I loved Kratos's transformation throughout. Just when you think you know a guy...
Kratos was developed beyond his beginnings as player-conduit and went through meaningful change. Kratos's development through these games and his growing affection and respect towards everyone who has helped him should be studied. This man fought for his friends and family, went on quests he would deem pointless just to spend time with them. Ragnarok was the driving force, but the story was about parenting, trust, and the blurred lines of good and evil. This game was so much more than I was expecting, and what a set of performances from the cast. Such a sensitive and moving focus on father/son dynamics. Just really blown away. This game turned Kratos into maybe my favorite character in any video game, period. I think every character with the exception of maybe one or two was done justice.
It had some UI changes that are a major downgrade and some smaller quests/ puzzles annoyed me but nothing could ruin that story and gameplay. Again, it is overwhelmingly amazing, the game told the story without making it so linear or "spoon-feeding" the right amount of immersive combat, drama, and puzzles and absolutely blew my head off the roof, expectations were met and exceeded. Yes, it is not always exciting to slowly climb up a ledge or shuffle through cracks during exploration, but I prefer it to the alternative, which is a loading screen or lagging graphics. They used those moments of slow traversal to load assets for the next area in a way that doesn't break immersion and allows us to experience an unbroken single-shot narrative. I also appreciated how they often add meaningful dialogue to those areas the first time you visit.
Always love a classic single player game with TONS of options, no microtransactions, fully complete at release with no bugs and brilliantly optimized. You just don't get many games like that nowadays. It’s everything GoW 2018 is but bigger, more expansive, longer, more characters, more enemy variety, more places to explore etc. better fighting mechanics, quicker climbing sequences, smoother movement. The gameplay is pretty much more of the same so if you loved it in the last game, you’ll love it here too. It’s pretty much what I expected, while at the same time being nowhere near what I expected. The rogue-lite DLC is also excellent. The story is very well done and adds a lot to Kratos. The RL loop is very satisfying as well. I’ve grown up with God of War and I’m very grateful that I got to experience this. I have post game depression so time to play some Sex with Hitler now until that goes away. Highly recommended.

God of War Ragnarok could have been an unforgettable experience on PC, but the unnecessary and nonsensical PSN/Sony account requirements tarnish what should have been a flawless port, and breaks offline play on Steam Deck (edit: thankfully, the broken offline mode was recently fixed, but PSN issue still stands which is locking out many of our fellow gamers in over 100 countries around the world). Sony, if you're reading this, stop shackling amazing games with terrible DRM and account dependencies. Especially single player games! Let us enjoy the game we paid for without the extra hoops.

Yeah i'm not linking my account to PSN especially for a single player game.
April 2011: Hackers Access Personal Data of 77 Million Sony PlayStation Network Users
May 2011: Personal Details on 25 Million Sony Online Entertainment Customers Stolen
June 2011: Sony Pictures Website Hacked, Exposing One Million Accounts
November 2014: Hackers Steal 100 Terabytes of Data from Sony Pictures
August 2017: Hacker Group Accesses Sony Social Media Accounts
September 2023: Sony Investigates Alleged Hack
October 2023: Sony Notifies Employees of Data Breach
There is NO reason a single player offline experience should require any third-party login, especially a PSN account on a PC platform. This provides no benefit to the customer and only worsens the overall experience, adding unnecessary security risks on top of being an inconvenience to the user and not even allowing people in certain countries to have access to it.
I enjoyed God of War 2018 and it didn't need this restriction, neither does this one. Consumers are complacent when it comes to companies degrading the user experience more and more in favour of their own interests and it will just get worse.
People don't complain enough about Triple A.
A market that allows mediocrity will inevitably be filled with it.

*OK, have to clarify since I got a ton of angry comments below the review.
(Oh boy, that will teach me not to tick the "allow comments" ever again.)
PS5 1440p mode looks fine on my TV and it looks fine on my 2k monitor. 1440p does NOT look fine on a monitor with a native 5120x2880 resolution, which is my primary.
Regarding PSN:
Complaints come from people with a steam account, a paypal account, an apple or Samsung phone, and 5 different social media accounts. All of your online behaviour is tracked anyways. Deal with it and adapt. In case you need to snort coca**n out of a lad*b**s b*ttcr**ck, use VPN and always pay cash.
Update: Nexusmod got a 1.6MB file that gets rid of PSN completely.

God of War: Dadnarok is basically Kratos' journey through Norse mythology… while surviving the real endgame: parenting a moody teenager.
Sure, I came for the god-slaying and epic battles, but I stayed for the father-son drama. Kratos throws his magical axe like it’s nothing, but can’t dodge Atreus' sass. Freya’s furious at you the entire game (honestly, relatable), and somehow Ragnarok feels less terrifying than trying to have an emotional conversation with your kid.
In short, it's a heartwarming family therapy session... with dragons. Would recommend for anyone who's ready to battle gods and teen attitude.

Same problem as others here! Unfortunately, I found that after about 1 hour of play, the buttery smooth 120 frames turned into lousy performance (30FPS). I don't think it's due to my setup. The graphics card is a 4070 Super. I noticed that after time, the VRAM utilization was at 150% instead of the initial 60%.
The icons, subtitles and the entire UI also look unfinished!
Too bad, I was really looking forward to the game... Unfortunately, it's unplayable after an hour.
That's why I have to leave a bad rating for now! That should be better! :/
Edit:
It is a known problem. It is not due to my hardware. It doesn't make any sense - then I should have 30fps throughout. I'm just sick of being a beta tester for a game I paid 80 euros for.

Played it on PS4pro, which almost melted every time I played it in 30FPS.
Played it on PS5, which made me chose between 30FPS fidelity and 60FPS 2k blurfest*.
Playing it on PC right now, looks twice as good, 4k, everything ultra, full DLAA, still 60-90 FPS.
Now I'm happy.
Thank you, SONY

I find it hilarious that people are throwing tantrums and refunding the game over having to log in to playstation when there is literally an option to skip the login and you can play the entire game... without ever logging in...
I am reminded every day how absolutely stupid some people are.
The game is great. And you can skip the PS login if you really don't want to do it. Problem solved.
