I simply can't recommend Sultan's game in its current state. 1001 Nights was my first book, I learned to read with it when I was a kid. Years later, I started to learn english and immediately asked my parents to buy the english version of the book --- and by the way, my second book was about the 12 labours of Hercules. For a gameplay that is 20% choices, 80% narration and reading about the consequences of your actions, Sultan's Game starts with a somewhat acceptable quality, but shortly later descends into complete gibberish. Yes, you can have an overal grasp of what is happening in certain scenes "contextually", yes you can 100% beat the game --- but in the same way you would be able to comprehend the writings of a 15 yo student with english below the average --- stilted, lacking flourish and with parts bordering a level of nonsense that you would think its probably an intentional prank. The stories told by Scheherazade were all about stylistic charm that exhuded a wrapping mistique, but the english translation of Sultan's game botched so hard that I lost the desire to continue playing. The english translation managed to be both playable and unplayable at the same time. Banana banana, potato potato, banatato, taternana, ponanotatobana. Another problem is how repetitive the text for daily occurrences can be thanks to the lack of iterations. For example, every in-game day you will read that your main character has been caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen, caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen, caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen, caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen, caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen, caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen, caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen, caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen, caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen, caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen, caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen, caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen, caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen, caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen, caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen, caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen, caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen, caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen, caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen, caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen, caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen, caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen, caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen, caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen, caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen, caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen, caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen, caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen, caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen, caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen, caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen, caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen, caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen, caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen, caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen, caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen, caressing the Sultan's card and rummaging through the kitchen. (brb I'm caressing my card) Now, the devs have stated that a complete retranslation is set to be patched in July and I will gladly change my review to positive if this translation out to be decent. The game itself is very interesting with multiple outcomes, hidden routes, events, characters, and you can do a LOT of stuff that is completely messed up and morally wrong like enslaving orphans or selling them, but I unfortunately wasn't able to enjoy most of it. I just wish I could still refund the game to buy it later with a proper translation. It's also worth of mention that the UI is beautiful, but messy. Recent patches have improved it a bit, but later on it can get quite confusing since your deck will be filled with 50+ cards that you can choose to solve events, plus several gear pieces that you can equip on characters to increase their stats.

This game is a lot of fun when you're just playing reactively, but the moment you start making plans it becomes torture. Want to get all 4 of the sultan's guards on your side for a revolution? Sorry idiot, you misused a stone card 40 turns ago, and now YOU'RE COMPLETELY LOCKED OUT OF FINISHING THIS QUEST. No matter how much you check the wiki, you will never have checked it enough to NOT get fucked over. It's also incredibly easy to get locked into a dead man walking situation, where not only have you fucked up, and won't know until later, but that fuck up is fatal and locked in. And it's hard to keep track of all the potential fuck ups because you're spinning 20 different plates at a time most of the time, your daughter wants to learn a dead language and she needs YOU to help teach her, this dude wants to marry your daughter, your comrade in the revolution wants to create a superhero and needs you to pick someone to be in the suit, your best friend wants to have a threesome with you and your wife, your wife is upset you keep fucking prostitutes, this prostitute needs you to invade her father's lands and kill him, the vizier wants your help kidnapping your comrade in the revolution, the church wants you to help with recruitment, the orphans are back and need food, your apprentice just found out his mother killed his father and needs your help processing it, your cat just ate the priceless golden bird you bought, your half sister wants ludicrously expensive jewelry so she can infiltrate the harem, the lead harem girl is being plagued by nightmares from an eldritch god and wants you to stop them, and on top of ALL OF THAT, you're still playing the Sultan's Game, and have to complete whichever task is on the card by the end of the week or you die. It's fun but stressful, is what I'm trying to convey.

this game is fun, and i’m enjoying it, but the english translation is so poor that i can’t recommend it in its current state, especially not for the price it’s at. i could forgive the frequent misspellings and grammatical errors, but what’s harder to look past is some of the sentences being so lost in translation that you can’t even figure out what is trying to be said. there are parts of the game i simply do not understand because the explanations make no sense in english. the translations are incredibly literal and read like they were done by google translate. again, it’s a fun game, but until a human is hired to do the translations it’s not worth the price it’s at. if translation errors don’t bother you then consider getting it when it’s on sale

¡¡¡RUN AWAY!!! ***That this is a Chinese version of SWEET BABY ruining a good game. And the extreme pro-h0mo community and childless cat ladies will attack anyone who has even the slightest opinion about it*** Original reviews: Forced gay storyline and NTR storyline, your best friend in the game will try to fxk you and your wife. And the disgusting community and dev team make it even worse.

I purchased this game partially because of a review saying it's rich in plot with moral struggles, dark but not without humanity. No, not true. After hours of playing I'd really like a refund if I could. The UI doesn't respect the player's time, the play-through is very repetitive, but the far-worse part is despite some reviews claim that sex is one good part of the game, there's not as much sex in the game as raping, and that's the "appeal" they are talking about (The protagonist gets raped too, LOL). Many side stories and endings (which it doesn't have too many) require the protagonist to use carnality card in certain ways and all lead to not-at-all spicy descriptions (only plain texts, no details, no images). Some plots: the protagonist being choked to near death/beaten with whips in sex, being f**ked to need to go see a doctor by wife, rape hostages, rape an ugly noble man in public, rape a young girl in other routes adopted daughter. Again, the game is repetitive, the player is required and encouraged to go through plots like those. There's a long chain of stories in which you have to marry off a woman in your team to a man she has never known in order to let her and you kill a dragon (the only way to reach certain endings). There's a lot of dialogues from her families saying she's a woman, woman is too weak to do that, they hate being women, and you can confidently tell which side the developers are on from the development listed above with a thin veil of mask. Also the game depicted China to be the heaven the characters should flee to. Didn't expect to see a real place name there, thought the developers would come up with a fictional name.

sultan’s game dares to ask: what if cultist simulator had murderous sluts instead of tedious countdown timers? it’s pure art- some of the most complex, deranged, evil, beautiful, rewarding choose-your-own-adventure branching I’ve ever seen. If the translation were even a hair more polished, i think english-speaking audiences would lose their minds. even without that, this is my GOTY. sorry, france; you lose again. on release, Sultan’s Game was the target of a review-bombing campaign by a chunk of the chinese audience who were upset that it contains optional gay content. and sure, you could call that kind of attitude puerile or chauvinistic, but let’s be honest: who among us actually reads confirmation prompts or listens to repeated requests for consent? who among us hasn’t accidentally helped their beautiful, supple homie achieve climax before realizing what just happened? (It’s a universal and understandable dilemma, frankly)

Great game 10/10. The game review is mixed because it’s been bombarded by homophobic Chinese reviewers. Apparently you can romance Faris in the game but the Chinese gamers don’t like that. Avoid the Chinese community and just enjoy the game.

No female protagonist :( All these narrative possibilities, but none of them contain protagonist to be a woman. A male-centric game that mandates player identification with a male protagonist, enforcing the trope of women as inferior and hypersexualized.

The game starts with a short, easy to understand tutorial, then opens up into the real game, which shares none of the mechanics and has no instructions. The gameplay goes as follows: You're given a number of character and item pieces that fit into slots in the games board, the number of slots is very limited so you just do what you can with what you have. A turn passes and the game spits some Engrish flavor text at you. Your turn ends and either you die or more slots open. Repeat. My first game I drew a conquest card and the game kept urging me to use it immediately or I would die. The only place I could slot the card was the Sultan's chamber, which causes you to die. My second game I drew Extravgance, and I had 7 turns to use it. I couldn't find any slot to use it, so on the final day I asked the game's "help advisor" and it for some reason opened up a place for me to slot the card, but it would cost me 20 gold, which I did not have so I died. So over all, ¯\(ツ)/¯ If this game makes sense to you, cool.

If you don't want to see any bad reviews, the only possibility is not to open the comments section. Most games can't hurt the child NPCs in them, what do you think? Creators should avoid sensitive content, it's their obligation. When they make a mistake, I give a bad review

At $24.99, Sultans Game is an overpriced and--dare I say--overrated new entry in the choices-matter, text-based, narrative-heavy genre. But instead of comparing it to more cohesive genre experiences like The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante, Roadwarden, and Suzerian, I'll look at Sultans game on its own merits. I enjoyed my first two-three hours of this game. I like that it does something different mechanically: the deck builder/card slot mechanic is, at first, slick. I like the theme, the setting, and the tease of sultry, text-based adult content. But all the game's best parts are ultimately let down by some pretty significant issues. Let's get the easy ones out of the way first. The audio. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills here, because I'm looking at the Steam reviews for this game, and everyone is praising the soundtrack. I do not know what they are talking about: there is only one song.. It's a 1:30 high-energy sitar loop. Over and over it goes, taunting me and teasing me as I click through 10 different character screens looking for the follower with the highest Wisdom. Worst of all, there is the high-pitched metallic chiming as the metal coins our stats are recorded on move in the breeze. Speaking of cards, let's talk about inventory management. You get a lot of cards in this game .These cards are split into a few categories: Cards for characters, cards to help with skill checks, and quest-specific cards. Dozens and dozens pile in as you engage in the core game play loop of going to locations and doing a dice roll. By mid-game, you'll probably be getting 4-5 of these cards each round. And when you get them, they land in your main hand., where you get to play the actual Sultan's Game, which is taking your trash cards out of your main hand and placing them in the careful system you're trying desperately to maintain. "Nooo, animals go in my third deck." It's a lot like playing an old RPG, where you naturally generate a lot of loot that isn't very useful. However, unlike in something like Morrowind where you could just *not* pick up another torch, this game gives you all the loot. Because why wouldn't you want it? If you get enough, you can stack them to turn them into a higher level thing! But until then, your 2 gray, 2 green, 3 silver, and 1 gold Omen Card are just going to take up separate slots until you use them. IF you use them. Because here's what I learned playing Sultan's Game: usually characters can handle skill checks on their own. Sure, you might get totally screwed and need a reroll, but followers can easily get so buffed by items (a system I really do enjoy) and books that those skill check cards that take up 70% of your deck and do not get used at the same rate they come in. But then there is a category of cards I'll call "why do I have this card/when am I ever going to use this card?" Sometimes you'll get a unique card and will be all excited because you haven't seen it card before. But this card has no purpose. Like skill checks, its purpose is to be stacked with other similar cards and combined to make a more powerful version of itself before its turned in to trigger conditions for end game. It's like handing someone a bunch of nickels and saying "now keep these in your pocket. If you get enough, you can turn them in for a whole dollar." I talked about horses already, but let's dive back into that. Animals. In the first 30 minutes, I got two horses. I tried to equip them countless times before I realized they can't be equipped (even though the game says they can). I tried bringing them to council meetings with me. Not finding a use, I tried offering them to the Sultan as a gift. But then I found their use. There's a horse betting event that pops up once every 5 rounds where I can bet 4 coins to win 4 coins. In the mean time, the horse lives. My biggest annoyance, and where this game falls apart, is that there are so many cards that have no obvious use. Like Rationality. I have 3 of these in my deck (and, of course, they don't stack). Methings, that bony bastard--and the game's attempt to clear away some of that uncertainty about what your card actually do--has nothing to say about it. I don't know what it does, but the one time I tried to do it my Prestige dropped by 1. So I'm not feeling an real incentive to do it again. In the mean time, I right click each one while in a quest because MAYBE one of them will slot in. It's like I'm playing a point-and-click game from the 90s where I am dumb kid and stuck so I start clicking every pixel on the screen in a desperate attempt to continue the game. So, most cards have limited value or have an intent that's weirdly opaque. The most useful cards are the followers, but even these are annoying to navigate. If I want to send someone on a quest that requires high wisdom, the most efficient way to do that is for me to remember who is good at what in my party. Otherwise, I need to click on 7-8 individual cards to bring up their character sheets and compare stats. Why they didn't just put the stats on the card is beyond me. This is all to say, I don't understand why it's a card game. The mechanic feels so poorly implemented and cumbersome. This game would have been so much cleaner with an inventory where things auto-stack and there are different backpacks like "skill checks" "special items" "quest items" and "useless horses". The card system is hard to sort, easy to get lost in, kinda crappy (try dragging a card on that clogged-ass carpet with 3 book events within a half centimeter of one another. Better yet, make sure you hit the perfect i frame when trying to socket an item card onto a follower.) Ultimately, it all feels like a messy gimmick. Quests. They get old. They're busy work. I have 8 followers and 15 quests. It's a chore to find the best follower for each quest. I don't remember why I'm helping someone, but there's no quest log so I can't go back and refresh myself with why this general and I have sexual tension. I feel like there are too many quests and too many followers. My game brain doesn't want to NOT use a follower, but most quests just get more of those limited-use cards we saw above, so the juice isn't worth the squeeze. Writing. It's preeeetty poor. I don'y really care about all the misspellings, but a lot of the text is poorly translated and hard to parse. That's a shame in a text-based game, because once I start to devalue the writing, what else is there for me to do? I'm not going to harp on the people not making a perfect English text game, but they needed a dedicated, localized editor to sit down and clean it all up.

Don't believe the review percentage, there's an ongoing review-bombing campaign by some Chinese guys. This game deserves 90% positive if not more. The art is great, the cycle of tension as you draw a challenge and try to solve it in 7 days makes for a good gameplay loop. The writing is not exceptional but solid, with bonus points for it being a translation from Chinese. The music is nice. The primary gameplay is a turn-based time/resource management. I saw it being compared to Cultist Simulator, but Citizen Sleeper might be closer for those familiar - the game bears resemblance to both. Every day you have some problems and opportunities popping up, and you need to solve them before they expire, potentially bringing adverse consequences. With the main one - the Sultan Card, demanding you Kill, Fuck, Conquer or Waste Riches On someone or something matching the required rank of difficulty and importance. You have 7 days to do that, or it's Game Over. The game plays as a meta-progression rogue-like, where you're almost guaranteed to lose sooner or even sooner, with special currency used to buy upgrades like higher starting stats, more followers, some quality-of-life improvements, etc. Overall, I'm still only starting with it, 5 hours barely scratches the story lines you can follow, not even talking about winning the game.
