I bought the game, installed it, spent about 10 minutes making my sim look the way i wanted her too, bought a house, made breakfast, set the stove on fire, caught fire, then died. It took longer to make my sim than she lived, 10/10 it works great though.

This game traumatized me…
One school night, back in 2000,
I was playing The Sims.
Then, suddenly—a scary sound!
It was the burglar.
He robbed my Sims of all they held dear.
Since then, every night feels different.
I’m scared of the future.
I wake up in cold sweats, thinking,
"What if the burglar comes to take ME away?"
Be careful when you start this game. It might change your life!

Despite giving this "not recommend" in reality this would be MIXED review:
- The game itself is classic and good
- Re-release's technical aspect is quite ok, best out-of-box experience you could have in 2025 with Sims 1
BUT:
- Despite all the fixes the UI itself does not scale and with 1080p resolutions and higher the user experience is awkward. All the icons of items are so tiny that the UI looks good maybe for (Sim)Ants.
- Charging 20 USD/EUR for this is quite expensive considering all that EA did to this was included already existing fixes (widescreen support) to base game and added DRM (Steam DRM in this case, so not 100% DRM-free game). At least they've could tried to redo the UI.
Buy if you don't already own original Sims 1. Avoid if you own Sims 1 already, at least when the game is NOT on sale.

so much nostalgia. i spent countless of hours playing this game when i was a kid.
10/10
- Game now supports the aspect ratio your monitor is set to (not restricted to 4:3)
- Crisper rendering and visual fidelity from changing how the game scales textures

it might not work if you have a 1080p display at the moment but it works on other resolutions (please fix!)

While the game works for me just fine I realized I care more about EA flopping and getting the fate they deserve for killing the franchise and running the Sims 4 to the ground with more than 90 DLCs than some nostalgia fun I could have with the legacy collection
Don't buy it, don't buy a single DLC for the Sims 4 either
Let EA fall as a company and let their workers get a much more fullfilling job somewhere else

I started the game, created a lovely couple, one of them joined politician career, they decided to cook some dinner, the stove caught on fire and one of them died. All within 30 minutes of gameplay. This might seem as bad game design, but to an observing eye, it's the assassination of the next president of Neighborhood 1. Sims has crazy lore and this is how it was meant to be played...

I love this game and its incredible sense of humor.
But... When I saw the neighborhood screen in a small square, and the rest of the screen in black, it made me want to cry.
I know I was naive to expect anything else. But, $20 just for the game to open on W11? It doesn't even scale the UI to modern resolutions. What is the point? Run the game in windows 11 and play it with an old monitor from the 2000s?

The least EA could have done was scale the UI and ensured that the game did not crash every 15-20 minutes. Clearly not much testing was done at all.

As a long term Sims fan, thank you EA for pulling through to sell this again and even better, being on Steam! Can verify that this works on the Steam Deck OLED with no issues and Windows 11 on my 4K Rig. No EA app required. Thank you! This game is just as good as you remember it! Do note for those who lack critical thinking skills, this is not a remaster as it's just a re-release with modern OS support. I will say wait on sale if you aren't willing to pay the current price, that's the true only complaint I have at the moment.8 votes funny

I love Sims, but this Legacy Collection version lacks the ability to disable all the Expansions, which is my main issue with it.
First of all – I never played with Expansions before, and I wanted pure vanilla experience.
Second – the game balance is wrecked with all the Expansions, and you just get overwhelmed with unwanted features like a lot of additional trash from additional mail, stray cats and dogs that invades your home and piss all over your yard, magical boxes with free stuff in it and many other things. When you create a new character you see some trashy space marine skin instead of normal character, and you have to search a lot for normal bodies and faces.
This is currently the only way to buy Sims 1, so it's pretty annoying that I can't play it with no Expansions. I hope devs will consider adding the ability to disable particular Expansions or at least make additional mode with no Expansion.
If devs add the ability to disable expansions or play a vanilla version, I'll be glad to change the review and play more, but for now it's pretty annoying and frustrating, even though I still love the game.
