Cloverpit is a great base for a game but it leaves a lot to be desired. It's enjoyable and a good game, but it falls short of the replayability of other roguelites.
Issues:
We need an option to increase the speed of the slot machine. If you're repeating patterns this will take an annoyingly long time.
Difficulty. I found the game too easy to "beat", but to me this looks like a teased continuation. I want there to be more to defeat with increased spikes in difficulty and more dangers than "666".
A bit more build variety would be nice. I don't know how it could be done with the games format, but adding symbol multiplier with pattern multipliers just seems to be the goal for every symbol type. Maybe different buffs depending on the type of symbol matched?
I think the game has a lot to offer if they add more, I just feel like we're missing an end goal. It feels like the game ended just as I was getting into it

This game is great - don't get me wrong, and I would definitely leave a 'mixed' review if steam had the option. It feels like you get punished for progressing, however, which feels really antithetical to the genre.
After a certain point you'll have unlocked quite a lot of items, but most of them are either super niche or just straight up bad. This means that it's going to be very difficult for you to get items you actually want, and it makes the first 2 deadlines usually a failure since you can't afford to re-roll the shop early on and are playing a pure roulette on just being able to have a chance at a decent run.
I'm hoping the developers will take a look at all the items and do some re-balancing because having ~160 items with most of them being bad or niche is generally not a favourable thing for such an RNG based game.

Honestly surprised by the high ratings.
Balatro is a 10/10; this "game" tries to capitalize on chasing the same casino high, but misses each and every mark.. The skill floor/ceiling is virtually non-existent. Your run lives/dies by RNG, so if you're dealt a crappy hand, might as well restart.
Even still, and despite 4x animation speeds, you're still going to see the 3 animations they actually bothered to program into the game 10000x, with no way to skip it, and unfortunately, with no other excitement beyond them. The game's scope is thin, the progression is flat, and you will experience nothing new before the novelty wears off. There's no tension, no payoff, and no reason to come back.
I would not recommend this game at $0.99

My Negative Review still stands.
The game gets worse the long you play it.
The more you unlock, the more the shop becomes bloated.
It actaully gets to the point that, once you have most charms unlocked;
1 out of 4 runs you will have already lost. None of the charms will give you enough RNG to win.
The Devs really need to address the problem with starting Runs, having a to constantly Restart just because of bad first turn charms is terrible game design.
If you're trying to rainbow holo a challenge card? you're throwing alot of them away.

Despite it's attempts at replayability, Clover Pit really felt a bit lacking for me in some of the areas where it needed to really shine. Personally, I believe that the game really fails to hit the target variability most roguelites need you to get hooked on. Please note that from the time of writing, I have beaten the game, but not gotten into all item unlocks nor memory card completion.
The first and heaviest issue that I had was items. I beat the entire game, drawer keys to the door, from only one leading synergy: Gold + Picture. Every symbol has a gold item and picture item associated with it, where the former adds a modifier that permanently boosts the value of that symbol and the latter makes the respective symbol show up more often when activated. I could not find a single other strategy that worked as well as this, so my gameplay loop turned from actually experimenting with other items to constantly resetting in search of the synergy before the third deadline, and then adding other stuff that helped it. I really think that there could be a bit of item tweaking to make other synergies with the potential to lead a setup like gold-photo can.
Secondly, Memory Cards, to me, were a waste of time. Memory cards show up in the middle of the gameplay, where you open a pack of three if you can skip a full deadline with excess money from the last. These are the "Challenge Runs" of the game, varying gameplay substantially to have players make a new strategy to beat the run. However, they are not permanent. You consume these cards as you collect them, in order to attempt their respective challenge. If you lose all of them, you need to get more. Now, I think that this is just to deter players from restarting repeatedly until they get a good first-deadline setup, but this really could have been done in another way, especially given that the cards have their own rarity system... I don't think anyone wants to open pack after pack hoping for a legendary-rarity challenge run.
On this topic, the actual card effects are kind of uninteresting. There are one or two cards that affect end-of-round items drastically, and that was a bit of a cool challenge, but like I said, I could only attempt each one twice because they were consumable, and I didn't collect too many from the packs. Others were just small tweaks to the shop, or tickets, interest, small mechanics like that. One card simply doubles the card packs you get when meeting the requirement for getting a Memory Card pack; a memory card for getting more memory cards. Even the two legendary cards I could manage to collect felt a bit bland. For game-changing runs, they really don't do a lot of game-changing.
Some other small things I didn't like were the lack of music (save for the little tracks you could play off Discs A-C), the randomly-generated parts of Jimbo (Though I do love the Balatro reference, I could never seem to find him with a particularly beneficial group of effects), and the semi-uselessness of the drawers (I'm aware they get you corpse parts and can hold items, but... well, I never really needed four of them).
Of course, I still want to say that this is a very good game and you should still play it if you don't care about any of this. This is just coming from me looking back on my own gameplay in hindsight.

Gambling involves taking a risk on an unclear outcome or event by risking something of value (usually money) with the intent of trying to win an item of higher value. Gambling disorder is identified by a pattern of repeated and ongoing betting and wagering that continues despite creating multiple problems in several areas of an individual’s life.
Individuals in any age group may suffer from gambling disorder. Those who suffer from gambling disorder have trouble controlling gambling. Individuals, families, and society may be affected by gambling disorder.
A diagnosis of gambling disorder requires at least four of the following during the past year:
- Frequent thoughts about gambling (such as reliving past gambling or planning future gambling)
- Need to gamble with increasing amounts to achieve the desired excitement.
- Repeated unsuccessful efforts to control, cut back on or stop gambling.
- Restlessness or irritability when trying to cut down or stop gambling.
- Gambling when trying to escape from problems or negative mood or stress.
- After losing an item of value by gambling, feeling the need to continue to get even. (This is referred to as "chasing" one's losses.)
- Often gambling when feeling distressed.
- After losing money gambling, often returning to get even. (This is referred to as "chasing" one's losses.)
- Lying to hide the extent of gambling involvement.
- Losing important opportunities such as a job or school achievements or close relationships due to gambling.
- Relying on others to help with money problems caused by gambling
People with gambling disorder can have periods where symptoms subside. The gambling may not seem a problematic during periods that are between those of more severe symptoms.
Some people can stop gambling on their own. But many people need help to address their gambling problems. Only one in ten people with gambling disorder seek treatment.
Gambling affects people in different ways. Gambling can change parts of the brain that are involved with experiencing reward or excitement. Treatment for gambling disorder can slowly help reverse these pathways to normal brain functioning prior to gambling.
Different approaches may work better for different people. Several types of therapy are used to treat gambling disorders, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, group therapy, and family therapy.
Counseling can help people understand gambling and think about how gambling affects them and their family. It can also help people consider options and solve problems.
There are no FDA-approved medications to treat gambling disorders. Some medications may help treat co-occurring conditions like depression or anxiety.
Support from family and friends can be critical to a person's recovery from gambling.
Counseling can help:
- Gain control over your gambling.
- Heal family relationships.
- Deal with your urge to gamble.
- Handle stress and other problems.
- Find other things to do with your time.
- Put your finances in order.
- Maintain recovery and avoid triggers.
the game's good btw

If you are one of those people who sit at slots all day at a casino wearing sweats or PJs, this is your game.
If you honestly think slots are boring, this game is not for you.
I got it on a whim thinking that this game could make slots interesting at least. I was sadly mistaken.
I can see why people like the game. But I guess I just have a Bias opinion on slot games.
