Where is Hall of Meat? Where is S.K.A.T.E.? Where are the competitions? Where are the Pro Skaters? Where are the death races? Where is the skate culture? Where is the story mode? Why do the characters look like they are from The Sims/Fortnite? Why is the language censored? Why have you fully committed to this art style when you received months worth of negative feedback? Why won't you respond to questions like these? It's almost like they didn't listen to the fans. Skate 3 only took 2 years to make and was an absolute masterpiece while this game took 5 years and running. Also, this game lacks the option to play it offline. Instead of it being F2P with microtransactions, battlepasses and lootboxes, I would have rather paid for a fully finished Skate game. Give us a Skate Trilogy remaster with all of the past games instead.

You could've told me this is a new gamemode inside of Fortnite... and I would've believed you.

This game kinda feels like buying a skateboard from Walmart. Like yeah, it looks the part, but the soul’s missing. It technically works, but the quality’s off, the vibe’s watered down, and you can tell it wasn’t built by people who live it. It’s hard to enjoy something that feels like it’s wearing the culture as a costume instead of actually being part of it... REVIEW UPDATE: Skate’s voice lines feel like they were written by a committee of middle-aged marketers trying way too hard to sound “hip.” It’s as if the game assumes its players are clueless, spoon-feeding skate lingo in the most forced way possible... Hearing it is like watching your parents raid a Hot Topic clearance rack, then proudly sling around slang they half-understand because they saw it on TikTok once. Hearing this kind of dialogue makes me want to shut the game off for a whole day... Like I need time to recover from the secondhand embarrassment before I can even touch it again.

500+ hour playtester for 2 years, The gameplay is fun. Skating around really does feel great, the new animations are really nice and smooth, there's a decent selection of options to really fine-tune your experience how you want, etc. Everything surrounding the gameplay is a positive. If you liked the old games or skateboarding in general, you should try this game. The problem is basically everything else. -People have commented on the artstyle being unappealing for over a year. I do not want to buy clothes for these ugly Sims Mobile looking people. -The replay editor barely works, stuttering and lacking even basic features like keyframes. This is something that Skate has understood the importance of since 2007. It is unbelievable to launch without this. -Many spots in the city are strangely obstructed. Ledges blocked by vending machines, benches blocked by trashcans. In Skate 3, you could move these items out of the way. Now you can only add more clutter. This means some spots are simply bad and cannot be improved by the player. -Because its a live service treadmill, you will play the same missions dozens if not hundreds of times eventually. Could they add more? Sure, and they probably will, but I've been doing some of these missions for years now and expect they won't be going anywhere. -There are no communication features. This makes collaboration when building spots basically impossible. I guess that's why they stopped calling them "Collabo Zones". -There are tricks missing that were in Skate 3 (darkcatches, fingerflips) that will come eventually, but it's still unfortunate. -The tone of all writing is unpleasant. I know people argue back and forth about "what is skate culture" and "who gets to decide what it is and isn't" but I think we can at least agree that $7 neon pink clogs and introductory missions from a city council member are not leaning in the right direction. The game also features no pro skaters... except it does. This one is mind-bendingly weird to me. The fictional characters that talk to you during Tours are all real life pro skaters. Shingo is voiced by Sean Malto, Slappy is David Gravette, and Izzy is Breanna Geering. So why not have them play themselves? Why get these non-professional voice actors to play fictional people? Now we have weird performances and not even the benefit of seeing the person in game. Just bizarre. Despite being always online multiplayer, the game is extremely lonely. Coop missions will never highlight your group in replays so it feels like doing a solo mission next to someone doing their solo mission. There is a single competitive mode, Throwdowns, that are just a timed score attack in a circle. You cannot play S.K.A.T.E. in this game titled "Skate." You cannot play spot battle. You cannot deathrace (not that the map could accommodate it anyway, there are no hills and you can cross it end to end in about 2 minutes). The lack of communication makes this even more noticeable. I can't even fake a game of S.K.A.T.E. without doing it in an external app with someone I know. For the price of free, there's definitely fun to be had here. Just know its a mixed bag. It almost makes me sadder because if the game was bad, I could just write it all off and move on. But I really like it. So I will suffer for my love.

If you aren't chronically online and are looking for a chill skate game to play after work/class then this fits the bill. If you are hoping it will fill the emptiness in your life it sadly won't.

0/10. Fewer modes than older titles No Hall of Meat No S.K.A.T.E. No Death Races No 1UP Less Own the Spots Garbage progression if you don't pay Forced to listen to a talking robot during a 2 hour tutorial Gentrified version of Skate 3. Out of touch vision of what young people would like, garbage song selection, Fortnite aesthetic instead of a grunge or hip-hop atmosphere. No story mode. Even the physics are a downgrade from a 15 year old game. Truly the biggest dogsh*t of 2025. The game has been in early alpha for 2 years and in development for 5 years. Skate 1 had 2 years of development.

Skate is still in early access, I know it'll keep changing and evolving. Gameplay-wise, it’s more Skate, which is exactly what I want. But the aesthetic is too clean, there’s no grit. It feels very friendly. It doesn’t have that punk grunge energy that skating used to be tied to. But maybe that’s just a reflection of how it is in real life now too. So yeah, it’s cool.

I figured people would review bomb it when it came out. Listen, this game is great. It's one of the best feeling skate games that we have out right now. I understand people are upset about no story mode and missing features but it's in early access... what don't people understand about that? This game has so much room for improvement and the fact that it's this good already, I don't think we should be worried. Regarding in game purchases, every game has them. It's cosmetic so who really cares, stop finding another reason to hate the game. There are plenty of good clothing options that you can acquire from simply playing the game. Anyways, get out there and have fun. Just skate around and explore this new world that we have. Don't let the negative reviews fool you :)

I waited 15 years for this? I gave my son and daughter the day off school to play this with me as I grew up playing Skate 1,2 and 3. I have put over 2000 hours into those games over the years and I have very fond memories of them. Playing them with friends and then skating in real life after was an amazing time in my life. As a hardcore gamer and skater these games were a dream come true. Unfortunately this game just doesn't live up to them in my opinion. Where is S.K.A.T.E.? Where are the competitions? Where are the Pro Skaters? Where are the death races? So many of the things I loved that Made these games great this game doesn't have. •The positive• The game is fun and my son and daughter love the gameplay and art style. They have no issues with the microtransactions, art style, battlepasses and lootboxes. I personally hate all of this and would much rather have paid for a fully finished Skate game. This made me realise maybe this is a Skate game for the new generation. I feel all of us 25+ years of age review bombing this game because we all grew up with these amazing memories playing Skate 1,2 and 3 need to realise this isn't a game for us. This isn't the Skate games we know and love and that this is something for the new generation of skaters. Instead of leaving a negative review because the game isn't what I want it to be I will take it for what it is and enjoy my time playing it with my kids. If it was just me playing I would leave a negative review. However seeing how much they are enjoying it reminds me of the first time I played Skate and that alone gets this game a positive review from me. -Botany🌱

After playing this game over the course of several earlier playtests, I can say I don’t really like this game. Sure, you can try it out, since it’s free to play, but that’s where the biggest issues come from. First off, the charm of the earlier Skate games is close to nowhere to be found. The game feels mostly empty, soulless, and constantly reminds you to spend money. The game also doesn’t have two of the most requested features from the community: a story mode, and an offline mode. So what do you do then? Well, you get a brief introduction from a cringe robot telling you how the game works. Sure, the gameplay itself is fine and feels familiar to what we’re used to, but that’s one of the few good things I can say about this game. But then you go to the actual map, where the only thing you can really do is just completing challenges or just skate around. There’s no cool story behind it, no proving yourself as a skater to get more sponsors like in Skate 3. Just you, those challenges, and other players skating around the map. How do you get cool customization options then? Well, be prepared to open your wallet. Because the free options you get are boring. Want some cool shirts with titles from the old Skate games to show you’re a fan? Well, be ready to spend as much as a full priced game, just for couple of customization options. I also don’t really like the map. Sure, there are some cool spots in the game where you can do extreme tricks, and some areas for more realistic skating, but it misses more diverse spots like the map in Skate 3. I quickly got bored, since it didn’t really give me any reason to keep playing. And I was annoyed by the constant reminders to open loot boxes, to check out the store, and that annoying robot AI talking to me. Honestly, this is a big insult to all previous Skate fans. We all wanted Skate 4, and their words were loud and clear: “This isn’t Skate 4, this is skate.” This isn’t what we wanted, this is their game. This isn’t a game you buy that’s filled to the brim with cool content, but a game built on nostalgia where its primary goal is for you to spend money. This isn’t the game you remember, where skating is cool and has a certain edge to it, but a game with a Fortnite like cartoony style, where you are forced to play multiplayer only.   To top it all off, of course this game also has battle passes, grinds (pun not intended) for XP, and just lacks the whole skate culture that the previous games in the series had. And what is a downside of a multiplayer only game, besides being online only? Well if the server is full, you’ll get put in a queue. So you’ll have to wait before you can play, even if you just want to cruise around solo. Sadly, I don’t recommend this game, and especially not spending money on it. Sure you can check it out to see what it’s like, since it’s free. But I recommend spending your precious money elsewhere, like on games that actually deserve it. Because for the price of just one full outfit, you could also buy Silksong or Hades 2. And I think we all know what the better deal here is.

If you're looking for a true successor to Skate 1, 2, and 3, this isn’t it. Aside from the controls, every other gameplay element from the previous titles has been stripped away. No Hall of Meat, no Game of Skate, no missions or storylines with real-life pros. In their absence, we got a soulless cash-grab with a fully functional cash shop inside a 7GB beta. I can’t believe I waited years for this.

Dialog is super cringe but the gameplay is fun! Surprised darkslides aren't in already considering they were in skate 3, and its a shame hall of meat skeleton xrays arent in either. Got microtransactions but easy to ignore as theres still in game earned currency to unlock stuff for customization.

Online only slop with day one server issues, same challenges over and over for ripoff chips for a spin on the lootbox casino for frankly terrible cosmetics, none of the gamemodes that made the previous games fun, No S.k.a.t.e, deathraces, own the spot career or hall of meat, the art style is not what the devs promised in earlier playtest builds, character creation and customisation is abysmal. Also rip to the Coach Frank, they replaced him with annoying ai yappers that sometimes repeat their cringe bs when you respawn. #addofflinemode

"Skate." Review after playing early access for 2 years... Pros -skating is *kinda* smooth and fun -i like the concept of grabbing music. -ragdoll mechanic is stupid but funny Negatives -music is straight cheeks, forever 21 music playin wherever you go. -most sauceless skating game ever -open world is dry, even in a full lobby -map is way too clean where is the litter, the section 8 housing, the crack fiends, the five-O -narrators and quest givers sound so lame. Coulda got someone like jason lee from skate 3 to at least say funny stuff while you skating -customization is trash, they expect you to pay for the good stuff. -i can never get enough air comin off a half pipe In conclusion: I filled out like 6 surveys during early access period and not a single issue i brought up has been addressed in this release. Just play the old skate games on emulators.

It's Skate and I'm happy it's back. I'll be honest we weren't gonna get another Skate game to begin with so I'm okay with the reboot. I plan on fully supporting this through Early Access and then again on Full Release. I'm not letting another decade go by waiting for a new Skate game so this is it. Love it or hate it you do have the power to shape the game to what you want it to be during Early Access so give it a go it's free and most of all have fun!

Skate 3 took a year to make. This took 5 years. 5 entire years. This should've been a return to form. Elegant in its execution. Pander to us. Please, we have been starved for a skateboarding game that respects the culture, respects the identity, respects the athletes and respects us. Free of charge does not equal free of criticism, so with that being said! Here goes! - The artstyle An awful art style that is a mockery of the trailer shown earlier that displayed a gritty edge. Not to mention the earlier skate titles. - The Dialogue... Dialogue so bad that it made me immediately mute the AI robot that is programmed to comment on literally everything you do whilst in the open world / not on missions, while sounding like it's HR is listening at all times. Luckily tho, you can turn this feature off. What you can't turn off is the dialogue that's yelled at you every time you do a mission, which there's tons. Turned the VO volume alllll the way down to zero. Without an option to remove subtitles there's a whole lot to hate from the writing. A real, genuine piece of dialogue that you're forced to listen to is, "Keep it raw dog street, yo. Whatever that's supposed to mean." Need I say more.. - Unappealing cosmetics that are locked behind loot crates. You want to buy the Van's bundle? Well that's 1600 Skater bucks which is roughly 18$. But what's that? You need to buy the currency in bundles? and said bundles are in sets of 500, 1000, and then waay the fuck up to 2600? Well you better fork over THIRTY NINE DOLLARS for your virtual VANS tshirt. Holy shit man I can't believe the audacity to still be doing this shit in the year 2025. - Challenges in game that are currently impossible to complete. Not a skill issue either. This is literally a case of "ollie up to this ledge and 360 off of it, while grabbing during the initial ollie. It's impossible currently to get the height required in order to clear this gap, so you just sit there, bailing over and over and over again, wondering what you're doing wrong. Than you realise, that you are currently in a challenge that wasn't playtested at all, despite the years of it being in that early alpha state. Literally dozens of challenges are in this state currently.. - Bugs, bugs and more bugs. You want to play this games piss poor attempt at hall of meat? Well be prepared for your UI to bug out as soon as you leave said mission, leaving you with a massive target forming wherever you try to jump / ollie onto cause the game still thinks you're free falling. Be prepared for "Return to Session Marker" to be stuck on your screen until you restart due to a mandatory mission early on in the "campaign". - Subjective take here, but holy fuck the soundtrack is terrible. Again it was an immediate mute on my end. Just completely lacking in any sort of diversity here. Some real stinkers here imo. - The design of the regions themselves 0 variety in locations / atmosphere. It's just different flavours of LA. What truly sucks, is the fact that we all saw this coming. When the youtube resurgence of Skate 3 occured, it was partly due to the wacky shit. And yeah, it had that. But want to know what it also had? A soul. This product is trying it's best to capture the "i just dove off a skyscraper, front flipped 5 times into nosegrind and landed it" audience. This is for youtubers who are gonna play this day 1, throw themselves off a bunch of stuff, laugh, then never touch it again.. And that sucks. This product is a husk of it's older self. I was really looking forward to this, even with all the negative attention it was getting. I went into it optimistic too. But man, It sucks to say that they were all correct. What have you done to my poor baby boy, my poor sweet baby boy. Do better EA

I've been playing this as an EA Insider for a few months now and have played all of the previous Skate games. Even though there are some missing trick mechanics, so it's technically a regression, overall I like the feel of the updated gameplay. But honestly, that's the best thing I can say about this game. There's no story or lore; you literally just grind the same challenges to level up the area and get currency to open crates, and it just becomes boring. The soundtrack sucks. The clothes suck. There's no pros, there are only a handful of brands, and it's microtransaction galore. It just doesn’t have any soul compared to the previous Skate games. It doesn't feel like it was made with actual skaters in mind this time around; there’s so much cringy dialogue, it's almost as if they’re mocking skaters. I’d much rather pay for a full-priced sequel than whatever this is. Mindlessly skating around is satisfying, but beyond that, it's very disappointing.

Me and my brother used to play Skate back in the day, so when this one got announced we got excited. After playing it though, all I can say is... "meh." The art style is fine, the microtransactions are whatever (it’s EA so of course cosmetics are overpriced AGAIN) and the world feels strangely empty and lonely for a 2025 game. I don't know if it is because I am from SEA region and very few players here. Also I see here People keep asking: Where are the death races? Where are the competitions? Where is the story mode? And I get it. Those were the things that made the old games so good. At the same time, this is still a free to play game in early access that just launched. EA always puts cosmetics first, features second, and servers(never). So I am not losing my mind about it yet. You can say there are still years left for it to grow, which in EA time probably means “never,” but whatever. At the end of the day, this game is missing a lot of what made Skate 1, 2 and 3 fun and I am not defending EA’s incompetence, but I also don’t think it is worth losing sleep over. We have GTA 6 coming next year, so honestly I am just happy I have something else to look forward to so till then, treat it like a filler content.

I personally don’t know why this game got a lot of bad reviews. Obviously this game isn’t like the original skates we like, but if you’re looking for a game to mess around after a long day or a stressful game this is a good game to play.

I think what a lot of people are forgetting about this game is 2 VERY important aspects. 1. Its a free skate game 2. Its an early access release There are going to be bugs, there are going to be micro transactions, and there are going to be features that arent in the game that were in all 3 previous games. Skate 3 dropped in 2010, 15 years have passed since then. Obviously the graphics of the game are not going to look the same as the dirty, grungy aesthetic that we all know and love from it, it looks polished and things are still set to change as it is still in early access so calling the game bad this early when the game just launched in a very unfinished state is way too soon. If when the full game drops and things havent changed, such as no offline mode, story mode, iconic game modes like 1Up, S.K.A.T.E, spot battle, hall of meat, etc, arent in the game with the same polished plastic graphics then its justifiable. But I think its still a good game and you should try to enjoy it for what its currently worth

I'm going to give the TL;DR first, then explain below: This ISN'T Skate, and it is most definitely NOT the Skate you remember. If you came to this game looking to relive the other games, look literally anywhere else at games who've tried to do this formula. Let's get the obvious out of the way. There is no skate culture here. There is no semblance of the street skating underground here. This is the corporate-washed vision of what skateboarding is. Vee's voice sounds exactly like every other corporate messaging/training narrator you've ever heard. Every other voice actor is the most flaccid performance one could give. Gone is the personality the other Skate games had. This game reads and performs as a shitty Riders Republic ripoff and that game itself is already supremely bad. Any personality this game could have had is instead ripped out and what we are left with is the husk. Furthermore, mechanically, they stripped all the other entertaining bits that made the other Skate games great: Hall of Meat, Death Races, literally any and every actual pro skater, etc. You cannot adjust your trucks to fit your desired control of the board, which to me results in the game controlling way to tight and heavy. The physics are inconsistent: sometimes I'll fall off a grind for no good reason, and sometimes the ledge I'm grinding on will launch me full speed ahead. The analog tricks feel even less responsive and tuned than any of the other Skate games often resulting in a trick being done that I did not do the input for because the game fails to read what I've done. One could argue that it may be me or my controller, but I have tested the inputs on emulated copies of Skate 2 and 3 with the same controller, and can reliably pull off the same tricks with little issue. I also find it hilarious that the fastest way to move in this game is basically turning into Sonic the Hedgehog by holding R2/RT and spamming jump. And while this game is in Early Access, there's so many trick types that are not here or minimal at best. Darkslides? Non-existent. Lip Tricks? You get ONE with no variation. Manuals feel a lot more restrictive than previous games, and almost feel pointless here. The worst part for me was that every time I finished one of the main missions, I would have to restart my game for any of the challenges to show up on the map. My friends have had issues were one task could not be completed due to a glitch making it so doing the trick required would not be detected at all (and apparently the discord for this game had MANY people having this exact issue). Aesthetically, this game is the graphical equivalent of SPAM (the food product). It is lifeless and bland, with absolutely 0 spice. I get that it's early access, but the art direction alone is lame and uninspired. The soundtrack also leaves a LOT to be desired, but I will put that aside because I may be having a boomer moment in that regard, and no longer be hip with the kids. At the end of the day, I would have preferred getting a Skate collection containing the first 3 games ported to PC. At least I would then have actually had enjoyable content that celebrates the culture and sport, rather than this disappointing facade of a game with no hint of personality to speak of. Given that this game is in early access, even if I put aside all my mechanical gripes with this game, it lacks any personality or soul to speak of. You are genuinely better served emulating the first 3 games, or better yet getting physical copies and dusting off your PS3.

'we are listening' yeah lmao. it's ea. the end. btw the game was teased in june 2020. how can you fumble so bad? we waited so much time for this? they received a lot of feedback in the last 2 or 3 years. i played the pre-alpha more than a year ago. they listened to the complaints? i don't think so i was a skate 2 player. i didn't play much of skate 3 because my xbox died, but skate 2 was my favorite game. i had all dlcs and all achievements unlocked. even my nickname is sk8 because of it some thoughts after playing for some hours: - i don't like the visuals. i think they chose this artstyle so the game could run on smartphones easier (i don't know if they will still release it on mobile, but i played an alpha on the iphone) - i don't like the physics - vee and all the dialogs sucks - i think they will never bring back hall of meat because it makes the game more 'violent', and they are not aiming for that - about the lack of tricks, s.k.a.t.e, deathraces: they will come later. calm down guys - the last mission the game makes you climb a building for like 20 minutes. wtf? - too much focus on cosmetics for an early access game seriously. look how many people are playing the game. look how much potential it has. so many people were waiting for this game to release but this is not skate. it's an ea skating game with some skate mechanics and i know it's an early access, but the future does not look promising to me i just hope im wrong
