The male developer should take a break from plastering his own face (and ego) over the game. I’m here for the gameplay, not a one-man vanity project.
The game itself is actually a lot of fun: cute style, chill vibes, and the achievements are super easy to snag.
Worth a play if you can handle a few too many dev cameos along the way.

More bugs than a Ubisoft game. They’re cute to collect, fun to battle and you’re even given a terrarium to display them in. Short and sweet. The calendar only ticks over when you beat an opponent so you can farm rare candy if you are struggling at any point.
Once you finish the game you can fight everyone again at max level (take note Game Freak).
I've since retired with an unbeetle unbeaten Atlas team.

Welcome to Kabuto Park! :D
Introduction
Kabuto Park is a cozy, cute, relaxing game in which you find and capture various insects around Kabuto Park and have them battle against other insects. It is developed by Doot and Zakku and published by Doot Tiny Games. You take on the role of Hana, a little girl spending the month of August in Kabuto Park. After a brief introduction in which Midori welcomes Hana to the park, Hana is free to explore the park. The story ends at the end of August when the final battle to crown the winner of the Summer Beetle Battles takes place. The gameplay itself consists of two major parts. First, there's a insect collecting aspect. Even though Kabuto Park has four areas where Hana can find bugs, she only has access to Sunny Farm at first. Each area lists how many common, uncommon, and rare insects can be found, and you can even find shiny insects. :D To collect an insect, there's a horizontal scroll bar in which the mouse cursor moves from left to right and back quickly. In order to successfully capture an insect, you have to click in the area that's green. Light blue allows Hana to get closer to the insect, while the red area means that Hana misses out on getting the insect. This scrolling mini-game's difficulty can be adjusted in the game's settings to make it easier or more difficult. (I chose the default settings for review purposes.) You can view captured bugs in the collections area, and you can even put them in a terrarium. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3488462904 To access other areas, you'll need money to purchase items in the shop. Other shop items include an option to upgrade Hana's magnifying glass to make it easier to find more bugs and an option to purchase a bugtopia book, which can help Hana find rarer insects. Now, how do you earn money? This is where the fun part comes into play. You can use captured insects to battle against other insects. The battles are basically the equivalent of sumo battles. You have a ring in which one team (which can include up to three insects) has to push the other team out of the ring. Various insects have strength, defense, and energy stats. The first two stats are pretty self-explanatory, and as for energy stats, each individual insect has three energy cards that have effects, like temporary strength boosts and smaller knockback. Battles consist of a push phase in which your team has the chance to push the other team out of the ring and a hold phase in which your team has to be defensive against the other team trying to push it out. When you win a battle, you'll earn money and candies. Candies can be used to level up your insects and improve their stats. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3488463011 As I mentioned earlier, the game ends at the month of August, but you can continue to play after the ending credits, so it's kind of like endless mode but on a more difficult setting with the battles. There are plenty of Steam achievements although at the time of this review, they won't count towards a user's global total until the game is out of "Steam is learning about this game".Review
It's great to go back and play a cozy game on occasion, and Kabuto Park, in particular, caught my interest due to its lovely art style and fun gameplay description. Thanks to the wonderful people over at Doot Tiny Games, I got a review copy to try out this game and give my thoughts. ^^ First, I found the story to be very sweet. It makes me miss those days when you could be a kid and just enjoy a relaxing summer with friends and have fun. I admit that I never engaged in bug collecting, though, but now I can, thanks to Kabuto Park. XD Anyway, I enjoyed the story from beginning to end, and even though the ending is slightly bittersweet, there is endless mode, so it never really ends. Of course, it's the gameplay that's the main focus. Insect collecting is so much fun. I liked the capturing aspect and found it quite doable. (Then again, I have pretty good reflexes.) You can adjust the difficulty if you find the mini-game either too easy or difficult, which is good for those who either want a more challenging or relaxed experience. Finding all of the insects in an area is doable, and it doesn't take too long to find even rare insects. With shiny insects, that can take time, especially if you're looking to obtain that achievement for finding five shiny insects. I have to admit, though, that it's the insect battling that I really loved. Having your insect team go head-to-head against other insect teams can be fun and challenging. Although I found most of the battles to be doable, only the final two battles were a challenge, so I had to reform my teams, taking care to look at stats and level up if necessary. It feels really good to use the insects that I got to win battles. As for achievements, I was able to obtain all of them. They may take a bit of time, but they're quite doable to 100% complete. With the art, it has this beautiful, cute style that feels perfect for this cozy game. It gives off that feeling of being a child, enjoying a relaxing summer. The backgrounds and sprites are drawn and colored well, and I can just gaze at the art for as long as I wish. ^^ https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3488462777 As for the music, the tracks are lovely to listen to. They have this fun, light-hearted tone, perfect as you're searching for those elusive insects. With the battles, the tracks take on a slightly more serious, fight-to-win tone but perfect for getting you in that competitive mood. No voice acting is present, but it's totally not necessary in order to enjoy this game. Conclusion
Would I recommend Kabuto Park? If you're looking for a fun, cozy game in which you can be a child, collect insects, and use them to win battles, this will scratch that itch. Also, if you want pretty obtainable Steam achievements, this is a good choice. For the asking price of $5 usd, it's absolutely worth picking up. I finished the main story in around 4 hours, but I ended up spending way more time afterwards, mainly to get those shiny insects. XD Finally, I'd like to take the time to thank Doot Tiny Games for the review copy. I never knew that insect collecting could be so much fun, and it helps that there's a battling aspect. I'd love to go back to this game again at some point to find more shinies. ^^For more detailed, fully complete, high quality reviews like this, please follow The Introverted Gamer, prioritizing heart and soul always. ^^

I am a 55 year old biker and trucker father, and probably one of the oldest people playing this game. I am a single father to my Son, who is 14 now. My son got this game for from his uncle, so we installed it on his computer and he started playing. By the end of the week he had 24 hours on this game. This was horrible for me, as it was already hard for me to find ways to spend time with my son, as he is always out with his friends or just watching YouTube. So i decided to make a Steam account and get this game to see if I could maybe play alongside him. I loaded into the game and started playing but I was stuck on what you where supposed to do. I asked my Son for help and he hosted a game for me to join. I loved it as it was the best time I had spent with my Son since my wife had died. This game has ever since brought me and my son closer again and now we actually spend time together outside the house together as well. This game reminded me that there's fun to be had in everything, and it has brought both me and my son many happy memories.
Thank you

It was a good little game that I enjoyed my time with. If you are somebody that cares about your time played per dollar ratio, I think I played this for about as long as possible. I really took my time and overprepared for things and grinded extra and I got every achievement and that took me 3 hours total. For 5 dollars, take that how you will but I’ll say that I really enjoyed those 3 hours and don’t regret buying this.
To the devs, if you made a DLC but it was just a new park with 4 new areas and new bugs with a higher level cap and a new tournament, I would spend another 5$ on it. Essentially the exact same thing again, I would pay the same price immediately.

i only wish, there were like 500 more bugs and a co-op and trading cards and maybe a way to search for attacks.
i rate it 6/6 insect legs. absolute bug-fest

KABUTO PARK
What a wonderful little game about a summer holiday gone bad.
You play as Hanna, a kid with a silly hat. She is enticed by her peers to participate in an Insect battle tournament. She is forced to adventure around the titular Kabuto Park to catch her combatants and force them to fight for her in caged matches (on top of a tambourine) in order to earn eternal glory..
Kabuto Park consists of 4 distinctive frontiers full of insects to catch.
Sunny Farm:
Easy, cozy, and full of little critters. Beginners and gooners should start and STAY here.
Calm Lake:
Lakescape full of medium weight champions. Beautiful, tranquil, yet lacking in sophistication.
Pine Forest:
Abundant in bugs, creepers and flyers. Arboreal ecology at its finest. Primed for bug-catching enthusiasts.
Crawler Swamp:
Only for the sickest of insect slavery enjoyers. Wetland galore, made for those who want to stomp their enemies into the crevices of earth where they belong.
All caught bugs are unique and have their own stats and abilities, of which I shall now give you a rudimentary summary of.
Insects’ capabilities are divided into three values of Strength, Defense and Energy, STR, DEF and NRG for short.
STR makes your team push faster, for those of you who never skip protein powder induced gym sessions.
DEF makes your team harder to push, for those who never skip breakfast, lunch and dinner.
NRG makes your energy fill faster, for those who drink Monster Energy unironically.
All are given a selection of “cards” to show what they can do. Like Yu-Gi-Oh!, but better.
As there are so many different cards and abilities, I won’t be explaining any of them. Play the game will you.
Some bugs are slow but powerful, tanks if you please.
Some are fast but lack the girth to compete, lightweight speedsters.
Some utilise strength in numbers, practicing the anti-capitalistic philosophy of quality over quantity.
Some do weird shit, like copy others’ abilities.
Some are utterly useless. Sh1t even. I’m looking at you, LESSER STAG.
You’ll have to choose your combatants very carefully in order to conquer the tournament and become the Summer Beetle Battles Champion.
If you are struggling, you might want to venture into the local store that provides you with the necessities for life in Kabuto Park. Use your hard earned cash to satisfy your shopaholic needs.
Candy and Honey, for you and your insects’ nourishment.
Magnifier and Bug nets to assist you in your bug catching.
Bugpedia to help you identify all the little insects that crawl around you.
And Boots, proper wellies, that grants you access to the different biomes mentioned above.
Collect all the bugs, make them fight for you. It is like a branch in the timeline, where Gamefreak, the Pokemon creator, actually made a game about bug catching instead of creating their own battling animals.
I’m waiting for the TCG and anime based on the Kabuto Park franchise.
5/5
Best cozy game I’ve played in a while.
Here is my manly and fully optimised strategy. By following it you’ll be (most likely) undefeatable.
The Bee-Line manoeuvre.
2x Honey Bees (Apis Mellifera) LVL 20.
To boost energy supply with the cheap Faster Together card, halt the enemy with the Relax card and push them back with the Wind card.
1x Blue-Banded Bee (Amegilla Cingulata) LVL 20.
To provide extra oomph in blow-power with the Back Wind card, to expand your wind repertoire with the Bad Weather card and extra energy with the Excited Flapping card.
Use the energy gain cards provided by the Honey Bees and Blue-Banded Bee to energise your Anthophila war machine. Then, hold the enemy back with the Relax card, as they most likely have more stats than your team. Reinforce your winds with the Back Wind card, and start the delicate dance of energy gain and blowing winds to push your opponent’s bugs off the battlefield. Simple, ADHD-powered strategy.

Shows heart, soul, and is a joy. Spoiler: one bug isn't a bug, but who cares?

the only game that makes me wanna go outside and stay offline in the best way possible. i love every single aspect of this masterpiece - the music, the visuals, the hidden stats, the progression, shiny bugs.
i only wish, there were like 500 more bugs and a co-op and trading cards and maybe a way to search for attacks.
i rate it 6/6 insect legs. absolute bug-fest
