Jul 14, 2025“Well, it’s a gacha game.”☝️🤓
Like… what am i supposed to tell you?
That’s like saying:
Well, he’s a scammer. It’s just what scammers do.
It’s not a defense. It’s a deflection. It’s a meaningless argument, mainly used in the wrong context.
Here’s why:
⚪ Gacha isn't inherently predatory, that’s a misconception. “Gacha” just means “capsule toy machine”.
⚪ Gacha refers to random character or item pulls not manipulative monetization and don’t mistake RNG with exploitation.
⚪ Time-limited banners, low drop rates, pay-to-roll systems are the exploitative choices not the “genre” requirements.
⚪ Gacha isn’t even a real genre if you think about it, it’s a monetization mechanic, rebranded as a genre to make exploitation sound normal.
So no, the problem isn’t “gacha” itself. It’s just how developers choose to abuse it.
And here’s the ironic part:
Players defend this game for being less predatory than others. As if that’s praise. As if “less bad” is somehow good.
This only works because they only compare it to other “gacha” titles never to fair games, never to ethical models.
It’s like ranking scams and calling the least harmful one “generous”.
But when you’ve spent years in this ecosystem, being exploited, it starts to feel like a feature.
You will stop asking “why is this here?” and start saying “well, at least it’s not worse”.
Now to be fair, the game does have its strengths
🟢 Great combat system - but not if you're looking for deep systems
🟢 Beautiful world design - no re-exploration value
🟢 Characters that feel good to play - no you wont get them all
🟢 A kind community - aslong there’s no critic
🟢 Tolerating mod support - if it’s not game breaking
But it also suffers from
🔴 Horrible multiplayer
🔴 Performance issues on the latest region
🔴 Hard daily and weekly limits that kill meaningful long sessions
🔴 An endgame that is boring and repetitive
🔴 The predatory monetization model
Bottom line
This game is not designed for everyone and definitely not for players who value respect or time.
So who is this game made for?
Simple: for people who’ve already accepted having no gamer rights, soo… mainly other gacha-only players i guess?
And who is this game not made for?
Players who:
• expect to have a choice
• expect fair design
• want to grind at their own pace
• want to finish endgame in less than 4 months
• want to play with friends in any meaningful way
• don’t want to be drip-fed progress
• don’t want to feel pressured
• don’t want to feel bad for not playing the game

Trigger warning for Fanboys!
Part 1
If you're someone capable of forming their own opinion without blindly following drama-chasing streamers or YouTubers, or if you're not so deep into the gacha scene that you've lost all critical thinking, then you're at the right place. Let me be clear from the start: I won’t sugarcoat anything here. I’ll call things exactly as they are. As someone who played, whaled, and genuinely enjoyed this game from Day 1 but quit shortly before the 1.3 update due to a lack of real gameplay value, I returned in version 2.4 I can say this much: “Yes, the game is fun.” So why a negative review? Because once you take a step back and start questioning the systems, the mechanics, and the way this game is built. You realize pretty quickly how manipulative the design is at its core. In very short: FOMO - Limited-time banners and events designed to pressure Players Sunk Cost Fallacy - “I’ve already invested so much, might as well keep pulling” Skinner Box Mechanics - Randomized rewards to condition behavior Whale Farming - Actively targeting players with addictive spending tendencies Endgame Bias - Late-game content favors those who constantly pull the latest banners. This isn’t just "part of the genre" this is behavioral exploitation, aimed particularly at younger, vulnerable, or financially inexperienced players. And yet, every time someone brings this up, there’s always that one guy who throws out the same old line:Part 2
I said that i'm going to remove the "How to Improve part" in earlier statements if nothing happens, I waited long enough for improvements. Sooo, let’s strip away the layers of polish and hype and dig into the ugly truth about Wuthering Waves in as much detail as possible, what it really is vs. what the fanbase believes it to be.Game vs. Framework
On the surface, WuWa looks like an open-world action RPG: flashy combat, cinematic story moments, big regions to explore. But underneath, it isn’t structured like a traditional RPG. It’s structured like a service-driven retention platform. The RPG elements are hooks, not goals. Exploration, story, bosses, echoes, progression, all of these exist less to offer a cohesive player-driven experience, and more to create loops that cycle players back into gacha banners and daily logins. It’s not “a game with gacha”. It’s a gacha framework wearing the skin of an RPG.Content vs. Retention
What players often call “lack of content” isn’t an accident. It’s by design. Waveplates (stamina), timegated progression, and rotating events are there to artificially stretch thin content. Instead of delivering full systems (meaningful multiplayer, deep progression trees), WuWa deliberately fragments content into drip-fed pieces that can be tied to monetization cycles. Every patch resets the loop: new character, new zone, new grind, while ignoring underdeveloped core systems. This creates the illusion of progress while avoiding real systemic depth.Monetization Dictates Design
Fans love to say WuWa is “more generous” than other gachas. That may be partially true in terms of early pulls, but generosity is only ever a calculated marketing strategy. Pity, banner rotations, and dupes are engineered psychological traps (FOMO, sunk-cost fallacy, Skinner box reinforcement). Stamina and grind exist not for game balance, but for monetization balance. Limited banners aren’t just excitement, they’re artificial scarcity to push spending. Even “free 5-stars” or “bonus pulls” exist as loss leaders to get you invested and onboarded before the real spending walls hit. If these systems don’t stand on their own outside gacha, they’re not gameplay, they’re monetization infrastructure.Community Denial
The fanbase often masks these truths with defense lines like: “It’s generous.” “It’s a gacha, what did you expect?” “Don’t play it if you don’t like it.” “They are listening” a claim mostly based on surveys that only create the illusion of consent, making players feel their opinions matter while the devs use them to justify pre-decided plans. This deflection misses the point. The real critique isn’t about whether WuWa is a gacha. It’s about how every system is designed primarily for corporate goals, not player goals. The belief that WuWa is “different” or “revolutionary” is comforting, but functionally, it’s still running the same exploitative playbook. Just with shinier presentation and slightly smarter PR.The RPG Illusion
If you strip away the gacha, stamina, and monetization scaffolding, what’s left? A 20-hour RPG with decent combat, okay bosses, mid puzzles, and a story with highs and lows. Nothing that inherently justifies timegates, monetization walls, or retention throttles. That’s the crux: the core game doesn’t demand these systems. They’re bolted on because that’s what monetization requires. The Ugly Truth
Wuthering Waves isn’t designed first to be played, it’s designed first to be stayed in. Everything else; combat, story, exploration exists to keep you circling the drain long enough to monetize you. My list of improvements i basically had here for long enough; https://steamcommunity.com/app/3513350/discussions/0/595158831570479481/ It's the biggest fake show I've ever seen, if anyone would ask me.94 votes funny

A Promising Open-World ARPG with Great Potential
Wuthering Waves delivers a visually stunning open-world experience with fast-paced, fluid combat and a deep sci-fi-inspired narrative. From the moment you step into its expansive world, you're greeted with breathtaking environments, dynamic weather, and beautifully crafted character designs.
The combat system is definitely one of the game’s strongest points — responsive, stylish, and full of combo potential. Each character feels unique, and switching between them mid-combat adds a nice strategic layer. The mobility and traversal mechanics, like wall-running and gliding, make exploration feel fun and rewarding.
However, the game isn’t without its flaws. Some UI elements feel a bit cluttered, and the progression systems can be overwhelming for new players. There are also occasional performance dips and bugs, but nothing game-breaking so far.
Overall, Wuthering Waves shows a lot of promise. If the developers continue to polish the game and listen to community feedback, this could become one of the top-tier ARPGs in its genre. Definitely worth checking out if you're a fan of games like Genshin Impact or Tower of Fantasy.
Rating--------- 7.5/10 – Gorgeous world, great combat, and lots of room to grow :)

Got almost 1k hours from the original Kuro Launcher. And i'm not recommending only due to the fact that the game is a gatcha, which will always be predatory. Game's fantastic, but predatory. Do not play unless you don't mind Fomo (Fear of missing out).
Edit: Now 232 additional hours after the initial review, i now find out that its really possible to lose 10 50/50s in a row. Hell no, this is a chore, people. Yes Wuwa IS free to play friendly...... if you save for a whole patch for an upcoming banner, that is. And its only going to get more difficult for new players to get currency to pull characters when they finish everything, since the game is relatively new. I finished everything in the world, and can now only get currency by the dailies, which is 60 astrites per day. Now that doesn't sound that free to play friendly, does it.
Further edit that has nothing to do with the game itself: A toxic community. Not everyone, obviously. But i've learnt a great way to enjoy all gacha games and i'm going to share with you all.... do not engage with the community aside from getting help and updates (You should also not care about people not liking a thing that you like, don't be bothered by it) and you'll start enjoying such games much more.
Reminder: As a game itself, the game is *fantastic*, great combat, great storytelling (not fully sure on the story itself) and great world design, especially world design. I am once again reminding that i am not recommending ONLY due to the fact that its a gatcha game and that people might find it stressful. But if i was to only review it only by the game's content, then i'd easily recommend, and i DO recommend it as a game.

A free to play Masterpiece.
I do not know why, it might not look like it is that good. Maybe it's the graphics, maybe the interesting characters, maybe the fluid combat, maybe the intriguing and easy to like story... maybe it's the boobs.
Maybe it's all of them.
I randomly found the game, in dire need of emptying my head after very diffcult and tiresome things called 'life' and this scratched it. I thought I just do not enjoy games anymore. I do, I just needed the boobs. (What?)
Maybe this game found me, and I am glad it did, I like it. I hope you will too.
Thank you.

I gave this game a fair try, but in the end it just became boring and kind of annoying.
The game sets you up with mediocre characters while promoting the crap out of characters that seem way more fun to play with. You don't get to purchase other characters, which would be fine, you purchase a "chance" to get other characters - that's actually the business model.
The RNG in this game is anything but random, judging from my limited experience. When it comes to rolling echo substats, you should prepare a ritual to your preferred deity prior to spending that exp. The ratio of rolling DEF vs CRIT is scary. You will run out of echo exp tubes many times before you have your team set up, and it will take you many moons to reach end game builds. Part of that is pretty understandable.
The world seems nice and there's a lot to play for, but I can't spend hundreds of hours playing with characters I don't like - my game time is reserved for games I enjoy playing, and the characters I play with make up for a lot of the fun. I tried to obtain some characters that seemed more fun but it seems impossible unless you try for a significant amount of times, to the point where likely money would have to be involved.
That being said, I can't put any more time on this game, and wont put any money in this type of business model - I don't like games that feature gambling, especially with real money; I wouldn't support this monetization.
I can tell some players are bothered by my personal gaming preference, and want to defend this game as if they developed it, so let me extend an olive branch... I GET that if you put hundreds of hours in this game, and horde your resources, your favorite characters will eventually come around, you might be lucky enough to land them, and you might have enough resources to put together a pretty nice team. I can not do that. I can't not enjoy... let's say 70% of my gaming time in order to hopefully enjoy 30% of it down the line. By that time I'll be beyond bored and burnt. I rather pick up 10 other games and get to play those to the end.

Probably the one time I'll make a proper review, but I love this game. I've been playing day one and was keeping up with the cbt so I love it to death, the story is enjoyable, I like the characters, the map is absolutely gorgeous and the game play mechanics are fun.
But
As a game that was originally advertised as a mixed gender game, it's really gone down hill with the "mixed gender". We currently as of writing this, have 3 limited males (one of which was free) and 12 limited women, 2 upcoming women are confirmed and a bunch more leaked 5 star women (excluding the 4 stars that again, are ONLY women that have been released since launch).
I love the women in this game alot, I own majority of them. But it's really disheartening and makes me really want to give up playing/pulling for the girls when all that get's released is woman after woman, who in the story just fall head over heels for Rover the second they lay eyes on them. While the men in the story? Nowhere to be seen. Brant had a decent spot in the story, but Phoebe took most of the highlights during it anyway.
If you're someone who plays to pull anyone regardless or you actively collect women, I really would recommend this game to you because you get what you want and a beautiful game on top of it, but if you're like me and you do like collecting men in gacha's I would just steer clear. I still stick around because I absolutely love Xiangli Yao and I didn't grind for S6R2 for nothing but it's incredibly demotivating every time I see drip marketing and there's no new man for me to whale on.
Edit: Forgot how incel the community is so I’m locking comments, originally had them open for constructive criticism but alas, people got upset because I gave valid complaints about the game. And people clearly didn’t read my review. I gave it a bad review because it’s easier to see the reasons not to download compared to thousands of reviews talking about how hot the women are.
The game is flawed in MY opinion for the lack of gender ratio. But the game is still enjoyable and fun. If you misread what I said and think I’m talking bad about the game as a whole, that’s on you.

I'm an old genshin player - and LET ME TELL YOU. This game is better in literally every capacity.
Skip button - Check
Better graphics - Check
Better fighting style/techniques - Check
No annoying stupid flying little **** - Check
Re-rolling your echoes with ease? -Check
Getting a crap ton of free wishes - Check
awesome characters and story - Check
Combat is actually challenging - Check
FLIGHT - i love this feature, i want it in every area.
Cute monsters (aka Echoes)- Check
Early loot mapper? - Check
minimal grinding? check
RUNNING up walls instead of climbing? Check
Like - just play it. its free, what do you have to lose? Get lost running around in a beautiful world and collecting all of the echoes. I also LOVE the recolor skins of the "shiny" echoes you can find randomly. So many little details to try and make it a top notch experience. Id say the developers clearly listen to their fan base to come out with a game like this.
For new players to this kind of game - there is a bit of a learning curve in the beginning, just stick with it and it will all make sense soon.

Fellow ex Genshin enjoyer. I do not regret leaving my 2000+ hours and 300€+ account behind for Wuthering Waves. I played it at launch but it was rather rough, however at this date I just cant wrap my head around how anyone would choose Genshin Impact over it. I suppose you can enjoy both at the same time, but Wuwa removes every single thing I hated about Genshin. Usually I dont do reviews like this, but heres a nice list of pros:
-Sprinting does not consume stamina outside of combat
-You can run up walls instead of slowly climbing them
-Dialogue can be skipped
-You can farm Echos (Wuwas Artifact counterpart) at any time, be it standard enemies or bosses, even if you are out of daily energy. However, EXP mats are another story...
-Actual combat that requires skill instead of just premium Elemental Mastery teams
-Bosses respawn immediately
-No stupid weekly material rotations
-You dont need 5 million different materials for one character, they use the same for everything, depending on weapon class
-You dont have to teleport around like an idiot to craft things or complete dailies
-The game tries different camera angles, and doesnt have the same two NPC models with only 5 animations
-NO PAIMON, free from this aneurysm inducing little twerp who has to comment on, and recap every single thing
-Weapon banners are guaranteed to give you the event weapon, you read that right!
-Developers actually listen to the community (even outside of China)
Tho unfortunately the lack of creativity map wise is a bit evident. While I really like the new areas, and while they are creative on their own, its not hard to see how they were heavily inspired by Fontaine and Natlan at their core... yall can do better on that part. (But I guess Septimont is what Natlan was supposed to be, so its better in the end?) Otherwise the best gacha/BOTW clone/ARPG I ever played. Im pretty confident even people outside of the gacha sphere will love this game.

Wuthering Waves is pure, unhinged chaos… and I’m OBSESSED.
As a Genshin Impact survivor (trust issues: severe and wallet empty), I expected pain. Instead, Kuro Games handed me a dopamine grenade, characters cooler than my previous game's wardrobe, and movements so fluid I tripped over air IRL trying to dash. All Thanks to Unreal Engine 4, the graphics are so good here. The map is massive, the combat feels like butter, and somehow the grind does not feel like suffering. Speaking of pulls, my gacha screams summoned my cat and my neighbors.
Kuro Games really snapped with this one. 10/10, can't wait to get emotionally attached again and spending more money again.
Here's a little poem ( pls don't judging >w<)
Winds that whisper, skies that sing
Blades that dance on echoes' ring.
Dreams awaken, stars collide,
Hope and sorrow, side by side.
In the Wuthering Waves, I’ll lose my way,
And gladly, gladly, here I’ll stay.

Stop playing Wuthering Waves and play Genshin Impact instead
So many fake positive reviews that you see here are bought by Kuro Games to trick you into thinking this game is better than Genshin Impact. Every game they do is stolen from Hoyoverse which is why they are often criticized as a company with no original ideas and a lack of identity which is factually true.
Kuro Games tried so hard to copy from Hoyoverse but they could never be. Don't believe me? I'll start.
1) KURO GAME copied the idea from Genshin Impact when developing for Wuthering Waves.
2) KURO GAME copied the idea from Honkai Impact 3rd when developing for Punishing Gray Raven.
Do yourself a favor and try playing Hoyo games, you will see a stark contrast when comparing Hoyoverse and KURO Games.
I hope this game goes to EOS soon. The wuwa fanboys are triggering me whenever I see them typing nonsensical stuff like "Genshin could NEVER."

Let's start the review by saying this game is absolutely top tier. From the combat, to exploration to the increasingly enriching storytelling that is the lore of the game, It's definitely gonna pull you in once you start your journey in-game. However, as it stands, it's just a flashier and fancier version of gayshit impact. It's like the old analogy of the christmas gift with all their fancy and shiny wrappers. It may look pleasing to the eye at a single glance but once you open the gift, you're struck with the realization that it's just empty inside.
.
Let's start with the most blatant problem that I don't see any people talk about. The looping aspect of the gameplay. You're given 240 points of waveplates each day (if you let it accumulates that long) and what can you do with it? play 2 rounds of tacet fields (open field dungeon for echo tuning materials) or 3 rounds of materials domain (for character and weapon levelling) and ur done for the day. Heck, my playtime everyday consists of only 15 minutes or less gameplay. Now, imagine if I were to let's say splurge one day and just yolo it to max out the copies of character which would cost me like what?.....around 3-4k?.......what can i do with said character after that? record my nightmarish difficulty fights with hologram bosses and release youtube videos about it?.... oh wait, I think there's already an oversaturation of those kinda videos on the media. Hmmm, ah maybe I can record my big damage numbers and flex it on a youtube video. Wait..... alot of people are already doing that as well?....see the pattern yet?..........whenever any streamer "discuss" about the game it's only gonna be about how to maximize you damage on this hero or this new patch story content was fire and they're going into a new glory age with wuwa or "this is how i beat the endgame content for the current patch" kinda videos. Hmmm, where have I seen this pattern before....oh right....gayshit impact did this before and now wuwa is just riding along its coat tails. So, what i'm trying to justify here is why should I pay that much money to support a game that won't even let me play the damn game? Spending thousands of dollars only to have a couple of minutes of playtime each day is the epitome of stupidity in my humble opinion. Might as well have made the game be a subscription model instead of F2P KURO, cuz I don't feel like a Free2Play player and instead more like a Forced2Pay player to play your game at this point.
.
Now let's talk about the recent wonderful scheme the studio came up with in order to milk the player base bone dry. They came up with "synergistic team members effect". So, in order to have the maximum potential of a particular character, you would need to pull for these other characters that you don't like the design of, you don't like how they feel to play with or the character just doesn't interest you in general. However, you must pull these said character for you to fully maximize the potential of the character that you particularly like and would like to pull instead. I don't know if this is just a phase or an experiment they're trying to see how they can make more money but it sure as hell is scummy to say the least.
.
Next let's talk about skins/costumes which again is weird why no one is mentioning it but in my eyes, the costume does not look that different from the original base skin. However, the price they're charging for them is just like how blizzard handles the price of their recolor/retexture skins. If, this is the how they're gonna start off their journey with their skins/costume. I'm afraid that the ship is gonna sunk before it set sail.
.
In conclusion, the game at it's current state is still maintaining the precarious balance of not pissing me off too much as opposed to the good story content it fleshes out in each patch. However, In all other aspect of the game, be it levelling characters, world exploration, echo levelling and tuning, it already grinded me down hard and I'm slowly starting to despise it instead of enjoying it. As such, let's hypothetically say that if a person that have the same feelings as me as well being frustrated at the game just like me were to decide it's not worth it to pull new characters anymore since we would have to face these frustrations again and again when we get a new character, what would the studio do then to counter act this problem? I bet they'll just turn a blind eye to it just how gayshit impact did it. Such is the sad and true nature of a predatory gacha game. So, I cannot in good conscience, recommend this gambling den disguised as a game to new faces out there.
.
On a side note, I see lots of talk on the community of how this game is more "game" than gacha. I beg to differ cuz is it really more game? 15 mins of gameplay each day is more "game" than gacha? Having to gamble to get a good roll of stats on an echo is more "game" than gacha? For the casuals like myself, needing all those premium characters (again, gambling to get said characters) to clear endgame is more "game" than gacha?.

In this game, you get new flashy characters just to do the same goddamn repetitive tasks.
Events are shallow and uninspired (You torture yourself doing them just for the sake of Astrites).
Story is cliché with awkward and cringe dialogues that read like AI.
Unoptimized and crashes every 5 minutes with ray tracing enabled. I play on a 4070 Ti Super, 96gb ddr5 ram and a 7900x Ryzen CPU so this shouldn't be a problem.
Characters feel more like marketing material than people (Thats what they actually are).
Rover is especially bland, and most characters only exist in relation to the main character(harem energy but without the boys lol). Once their event ends, they disappear from relevance.
HORRIBLE material farming RNG that is MEANT to waste your PRECIOUS time while giving you nothing or barely half of what you actually want. The odds of getting good stats are absurdly low and building a SINGLE character can take weeks, which only gets worse every time you pull a new one. Farming special materials is gated weekly and you are ONLY given three chances to farm them. If you have a lot of characters this forces you into a weekly grind, and every week you miss is progress permanently lost since those three tries do NOT stack up. Bear in mind you’re constantly grinding for EXP and other materials that drain huge amounts of stamina, so you’ll find yourself running out of fuel all the time.
You purchase the Lunite Pass but you ONLY get your money’s worth if you log in daily. You can purchase the subscription multiple times but the rewards don’t stack and if you miss one day you will miss that day’s reward which is a predatory tactic that triggers your FOMO. I do not want to log in every day just to get my money’s worth. (this is just another example of FOMO in this game.)
The world looks beautiful but plays like a walking simulator making it feel empty and boring. It looks alive, but doesn't feel like it.
Quick time events (QTES) are mindless and pointless: no stakes, no tension, just button-mashing to keep your character from freezing mid-air. (peak story-telling inspired by Sony games lol)
Male characters are rare to the point of being an afterthought.
Criticizing the game is basically a taboo within the fanbase (like most gacha/anime fanbases).
Overall, the game does have potential, but I doubt the story will ever improve since it caters to a specific demographic. As long as that’s the case, don’t expect the story or events to get any better. Being free to play does not exempt it from criticism. (which it isn’t if you actually think about it since you pay with your time and these gacha mechanics earn them millions of dollars every month that other triple-A games could only dream of)
If you’re fine with collecting waifus like Pokemon, grinding Astrites and materials through boring chores, slogging through mediocre stories (There's a reason why they added a skip button), doing repetitive and unchallenging events like a masochist, then this game is right up your alley.

The game is good but I will say only one thing. Why can't you fix these account linking things? You can't unlink an account after linking it. I'm past that. Are you going to delete this account? Is the account yours too? You will have to wait at least 1 month. The game was linked to my Steam account by mistake. I'm trying to link my other account but it doesn't connect but I have to wait a month to link something. I will play this game in a month. There is only one thing you can do for this. You couldn't fix these account links, well done.

ABSOLUTE CINEMA!
No but seriously, one of the best, if not THE BEST gatcha game out there.
What makes this game stand out before the rest:
- Stunning graphics (Unreal Engine 4 graphics, great attention to detail)
- Character design (The characters are so well designed, making you shake like crazy when you pull a 50/50)
- Immersive world (The scenary is just stunning)
- Intuitive progression (Makes it clear what you need to do)
Overall, in my humble opinion, it will remain the best gatcha game for a very long time.
Congratulations Kuro Games for launching Wuthering Waves on Steam!

Been playing since day 1 - WuWa is pretty much the best open-world gacha game right now - and it's not even close.
For any new players: just power through the first six acts (patch 1.0). The game improved immensely after that, all within the first few months. It features fantastic combat, beautiful characters (possibly the only game where in-game models look better than their splash arts), fun exploration (wall-running, double jumps, flying - you name it), great story presentation, and, most importantly, a proper main character who feels impactful both in the story and gameplay.
