Blue Protocol: Star ResonanceBlue Protocol: Star Resonance
I have never written a review for anything before, but after playing this I felt compelled to. This absolute slop represents the culmination of the cancer that has killed the MMO genre. There is so much wrong with the game that I won't be able to cover it all, and the few things that are good have major caveats. So let's start with those: the music is nice until you realise it's just the same 30 seconds on loop and then it gets irritating, and the environments so far are pretty. I say so far because we haven't really seen much as the soulless hivemind of bug-people who purchased this asset flip from Bandai implemented time gating. It's all downhill from here. This is a global release with one server that seems to be located somewhere in North America. I am in Australia and I am averaging a ping of 480 - which is even worse than usual when connecting to US based servers. Many other players report similarly bad latency issues... Or at least the people I can understand. 80% of the chat is languages other than English. There is no translation tool implemented. The Chinese company that bought this game didn't even bother to replace the Japanese voice acting with English, but they did translate the text dialogue to English (although they clearly used some off-brand translation tool because much of the dialogue is nonsensical). This is why I say it is a very lazy asset flip. The only material change they've made is to the monetisation - which is more egregious than anything else on the market. Movement is clunky, combat is clunky, controls are clunky and unintuitive, and the UI is a complete and utter dog's breakfast. For an action combat game, the combat and movement aren't responsive. Of course, the autocombat feature can make it a bit less painful (but then what's the point of action combat?), and the automove feature works sometimes, but the pathing is so poorly implemented that it often fails to initiate or go to the objective - and other times it will just teleport you there. You would think that such core features of mobile slop wouldn't be so poorly implemented by now. Speaking of poor implementation, the UI is absolutely painful. There are so many menus inside of menus inside of menus that even after five hours of gameplay I've barely started to make any sense of it. Very little makes sense and nothing is explained. You just have to figure things out, which wouldn't be a problem if the game didn't penalise you for wanting to reset things (you need to do that with premium currency). Even something as simple as gathering materials becomes painful because when you highlight a node, you have to use the scroll wheel to do a "Normal" gather, otherwise it will do a "Focused" gather which consumes your Focus - a premium resource you get small amounts of daily but of course you can buy more with real money. Extrapolate these extra unnecessary steps over the whole game and you can imagine how navigating the UI is like pulling teeth. It also raises legitimate questions over whether this is deliberate "dark patterning" rather than developer incompetence. Digging through the myriad of menus and I've managed to find these monetisation features (but I'm sure there are more): season passes (plural), battle passes (plural), a monthly card, a cosmetic gacha, a mount gacha, a battle gacha, about half a dozen different stores each with their own premium currencies, very short special discounts and sales, FOMO events with exclusive items purchasable with exclusive tokens (which can be bought with real money, something tells me you will never earn enough tokens through normal gameplay). This game is pure chinesium gacha slop skinwalking as a themepark MMO. Shanghai Bokura are clearly trying to extract as much wealth as possible for the least amount of effort - which is normal for any company and wouldn't be a problem if you couldn't feel the disdain they have for you as the consumer immediately upon logging in. Unless you are willing to undergo a lobotomy, save yourself the time and do not play this game, you will not enjoy it.

I'm going to place edit 2 at the top since it's the most relevant bit of info. and most important for people to see. @Kethios:

Let me start out by saying monetization like this is terrible I don't agree with it. With that out of the way, here's the actual average cost: 3.68% SR chance (w/ pity), 60% chance of a card / SR 2.208% chance of a card / pull 5 tickets / (0.02208 cards/pull) = ~226.45 pulls 226.45 pulls * (150 orbs / pull) = 33967.5 orbs 6480 + 1296 = 7776 orbs per $100 USD from the shop (77.76 orbs / USD) 33967.5 orbs / (77.76 orbs / USD) = ~437 USD $437 on average , a far cry from your result. Or just think about it for more than 2 seconds and remember you can sell the SSR outfit and other SR items on the market and buy the remaining cards. The average valuation of 80 pulls in cards is about 9.5 cards. Using the latter method, that 5 ticket outfit you want is closer to 80 dollars (still outrageous).

I missed tickets are 60% chance of the SR banner, not 20%. I read through the rates disclosure and must have missed this bit. That also explains the discrepancy between the listed rates with pity vs what I got with math. This changes the results quite a bit in cost, to a significant degree. I also didn't know you could turn in/sell stuff, that aspect is also hard to find (went back in and still can't find that info in-game, fwiw). Contrary to what some people are saying, this review is by no means meant to be an inaccurate depiction nor is it meant to mislead people. The systems are far harder to understand than they need to be and a small slip like this is entirely possible to make. For those saying it's a joke getting angry over cosmetics, cosmetics matter a TON for many gamers. Just because they don't for you doesn't mean any less of people who it does matter for. I'm also not going to comment on gameplay/story as I'm just not far enough in to do that at all. My review will still stay negative, but at this point I wish I could have it be mixed. I've never been a fan of gacha/lootboxes and really wish this didn't have it, but it is what it is I guess. I'm going to leave up everything before this edit for full context, as that's important for context of the discussion in the comments. ORIGINAL REVIEW: There's a point where too much monetization is just too much. This shit makes Star Citizen blush. The worst of the worst Gacha games don't come close to how much it takes to get the one outfit I want. This is biblical levels of monetization. I waited for this game for years and this is how it turned out. Maybe I'll continue the game down the road as it's free, but I dunno man. You look at the store, comb through all the confusing currencies to find out how much the outfit you want is, just to realize it'd be 6000$ for the full set or 1875$ for just the dress itself. I dunno man. This shit's just bullshit. EDIT 1: My response to a comment saying this is malicious slander and I should be banned for it was too long to post in one comment. I'm going to also append it into here for all to see it more clearly. Yes, my numbers were a little off. Actual math below for those who care. TLDR for those who don't want the math though, 6k is 3508.167$, 1875$ is 1096.30$, and there's a single mount that costs $9866.72$ when you count statistical chance and not just pity. Comment chain with math below: Ok, it's math time then since apparently this is malicious slander. The message was too long, so it'll be in multiple parts. Bear with me on this. You need 1500 Rose Gems per 10 pull. The closest pack that gets you them is 30 USD for 1980. (30/1980)*1500=22.727272 (repeating). This comes to 22.73$. I'll admit, I rounded to 25$ for the sake of easy math, oh my god. I'll go through using exactly 22.73 then for your sake. Now then, let's look at this currency to get the royal attire outfit (not even the most expensive outfit in the Meow Shop and significantly under other items in the Meow Shop if you count mounts.) It costs 5 tickets. To get tickets, you roll the wish gacha. Wish Gacha has a 1.85% chance to drop an SR, with a guaranteed being every 30 pulls. With that, the SR prize pool is 5 items, only one of which is a ticket, so your chances of getting a ticket are 1/5 of that 1.85%. If we ignore the ability to get the SR outside of the guaranteed, this is pretty simple math (what I did for the sake of simplicity above in the review). 22.73x3x5 = 340.909090 (repeating) for getting a single ticket with the pity system. 5 tickets = 340.909090*5 = 1704.54545454 (repeating). In the above calculations, with simplifying to 25$, that comes out to 1875$. Now, let's say I want to get the corresponding accessory (wings, 1 ticket), weapon (5 tickets), and mount (5 tickets). That's now 16 tickets. 340.909090 * 16 = 5454.5454545 (repeating) dollars. My bad, blatant malicious slander. I said it was 500$ more on a 5.5k USD purchase. Ok, now let's throw in some random chance to get these tickets via the actual gacha system since now we're no longer doing napkin math. Yes, this will come to a lower number, but not by as much as you'd think. In the above example, you're doing 750 draws total (75 10-pulls). 10 pulls, 30 for pity, 5 SR items to get, 5 tickets needed for the Royal Attire. 10x3x5x5 = 750. Now, statistically in those 750 pulls you'd get.... 750 x 0.0185 = 13.875 SR's, of which with a 1 in 5 chance, you're looking at maybe getting 2 or 3 of those tickets with that. 13.875/5 = 2.775. So, for 750 rolls you can expect around 7.775 tickets. Now truth be told, I've not looked to see if getting an SR resets your SR pity. In many gacha games, it does. I don't know about this one, so we'll just say it doesn't and pity is every 30 pulls no matter what. Now then, to find the average number of rolls strictly to get those tickets including luck and the pity, we can set up the equation as follows: E (5 tickets for the royal attire) = (number of tickets) / (( chance per roll * number of items in SR) + ( number of items in SR) / (number of rolls for a guaranteed)) E (5 tickets) = 5 / (0.0185 * (1/5) + (1/5) / 30) This looks like the following: E = 5 / (0.0185 * (1/5) + (1/5) /30) E = 5 / (0.0037 + 0.0066666) E = 5 / 0.010366666 E = 482.315 Now, at that 22.73$ per 10 rolls number from above, you're looking at the following: (482.315 / 10) * 22.73 = 1096.30 You're right, it's not 1875$ for the outfit. It's just 1100$ for the outfit. Oh my god, my bad. I'll throw you a bone, actually. You can buy a 6480 gems pack for 100 USD. 100/6480 = 0.0154320988 (number's a lot longer, I'm just gonna round to there) per gem. 0.0154320988 * 1500 = 23.1481. Lmao, it's MORE expensive to buy the larger pack? Well: 1980 pack is 30 USD. 30 goes into 100 3.333 times. (1980*3) + (1980/3) = 6600. Sure enough, buying the 1980 pack is actually cheaper. Go figure. Never mind, that's not throwing you a bone. Sure, there's a first time purchase bonus. I'm not gonna throw that into there, it amounts to 4 free 10 pulls, lowering your cost by around 100$. So, back to that 5.5k one. The 16 ticket set for everything that matches the royal attire. E (16 tickets) = 16 / (0.0185 * (1/5) + (1/5) / 30) E = 1543.40836 rolls Pardon me for skipping the steps, I figure if you really doubt me at this point, you can plug it into a calculator yourself. 1543.40836/10*22.73= 3508.16720257 $3508.17 for an outfit, the matching accessory, a matching cosmetic weapon skin, and a matching mount. And this is for one of the cheap outfits on the Meow Store. And one of the cheapest mounts on the store. There's a mount that cost 45 tickets. E(45) = 45 / (0.0185 * (1/5) + (1/5) / 30) 4340.84 pulls $9866.72 Nine thousand, eight hundred, sixty six dollars. For a mount. Slander my ***. I didn't take the time to factor in the random chance, that's the only fault with my review. The only thing malicious here is this monetization system.

This game is dogwater. 350+ ping in OCE; UI and UX are just mobile game spam and gacha noise. Auto Run, Auto Combat. Bugged Steam Achievements, in 40 minutes of playtime, I apparently: - Levelled my Fishing Skill to Level 20 (I don't have a Fishing Rod) - Opened 800 Chests (I opened 2) - Collected 8000 Cosmetics (I had like 6) - Upgraded 300 Skills (I upgraded 4) The mount movement is slow, clunky and terrible, the combat was just smashing my keys off-cooldown. This game is clearly a mobile port designed to extract money from you for banner skins, and is absolute buns. Don't touch this trash.

I honestly don’t get why so many reviews for Blue Protocol are negative, because this game is pretty and so easy to get lost in. From the moment you start, you’re dropped into this anime-style world that feels alive, cute colors, beautiful lighting, and a soundtrack that’s just… WOW. The music perfectly fits every area. Literally like stepping into SAO, and people complain? Give me a break. The combat feels great too, smooth and satisfying. And while some say it’s grindy or p2w, I actually like that it gives you time to explore, relax, and enjoy the world instead of rushing through it, you can literally play it in your own speed and not spend any money on it, since it's PVE. It’s the kind of game where you want to stop and take screenshots every five minutes. Everyone might not like that you can auto battle, but hear me out, you DON'T HAVE TO. Character customization is adorable and detailed, and the social vibe is really nice, seeing other players around makes the world feel active and shared. Sure, it has a few flaws like any MMO, but the core experience is magical. If you love anime aesthetics and great music, Blue Protocol is absolutely worth trying out. Don’t let the negativity fool you, it’s a charming, casual and immersive game that deserves more love

Very generic, you see these type of Chinese games all the time but this one is a bit more polished than those. Character customization is very nice but lacks in the voices as my old dude has a voice of a twink. Combat feels nice, at least playing as a Mage, although it's nothing crazy but very generic anime game combat. As for the store, you have the very generous "xxxx% Value" packs, "90% off" outfits on day 1, and a gacha system to top it off. I see people getting mad at other people for bashing this within the first few hours, but it very easy to see how generic this game is, but the game is FREE so try it out for yourself, don't let others decide for you. "Emblem Power Parts" looks like the Ghost from Destiny

There is AUTO COMBAT? (I don't actually want this) How? Do you toggle this on or unlock it? So far every combat encounter I have done it myself. I haven't even seen this auto combat. Just turn it off if you don't like that...? Not sure why this is getting review bombed. It's too early to tell if I actually like the game but it has promise. This is based on combat alone, it's not my first choice of combat. I can still recommend the game though as this is a me thing! Clunky horrible gacha style menus aside. The game is fun. I will recommend it for now. EDIT: I 100% Recommend it. Game is fun and is ticking MANY boxes for me. Story, Characters, Life Skills, Social, etc Combat and ui/menus are the weakest aspects. Other than that I am happy with it. Even more so, for the first time in years I have found a Guild where people are talking and actually communicating with each other to work together i.e discussing which life skills to learn so that we cover all of them as a Guild. LOVING it!

The monetization is far too excessive and ping is an issue if you're not located in the US. With that out of the way, most of the negative reviews I've seen are frankly absurd. People complaining about having to talk to NPCs and kill mobs in an MMORPG, or about the existence of optional auto-walk or auto-cast features when they've been a thing in classics of the genre (e,g, FFXIV or Runescape respectively) for a long time. Or people complaining about having premium currencies and shops in a gacha game. Or complaining about anime tropes and Japanese voice acting in an anime game. The game is not subtle about what it is at all, if you don't like the genre it belongs to then don't play it, simple as that. Imagine downloading a racing game and calling it bad because all you do is drive cars, or downloading a subscription-based game and calling it bad because it expects you to pay to do anything. Now, if you do know what you're getting into and don't mind it, what you'll find is a promising game that scratches an itch I've personally had for years at this point. An MMORPG with an anime aesthetic and great character customization that doesn't hold you on a leash for half a hundred hours before allowing you to actually play your character and have fun with them, and whose combat requires good resource management and timing and reflexes and team coordination. However, as mentioned in the beginning, the game also suffers from excessively predatory monetization, to the point where I can't even blame people for being turned off by it, and I would not be surprised if that were to cause the game's premature death, again. There is a chance that the developers will continue to head in this direction and try to squeeze as much money as possible from players until it dies, but I've been really enjoying the game so far and I really want it to succeed, so as much as I believe a lot of the criticism it's receiving is unjustified, I do hope the developers take our feedback to heart and make the necessary changes for Star Resonance to thrive.

So, to give this a fair shot I cleared all quest content that's available on day one including all the side quests, took 4.5 hours. It's a shame, this game is visually so cool and the world they've built is definitely interesting, but ultimately this is just a mobile game with auto-pathing, auto-battling, strict time gating, and the ability to straight up pay real money for power. If you don't mind that sort of thing maybe you'll like this, but it's not for me and I wouldn't recommend it.

If you're looking for a review on this game you've come to the wrong place, but if you're looking for an outstanding pie recipe you've come to the right place. Ingredients: 1. 6 tablespoons unsalted butter 2. 1/2 cup white sugar 3. 1/2 cup brown sugar 4. 1/4 cup water 5. 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon 6. 1 pinch salt 7. 5 apples - peeled, cored and sliced 8. 1 pastry for double-crust pie Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). 2. Combine butter, white sugar, brown sugar, water, cinnamon, and salt in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil, remove from heat and set aside. 3. Roll out half the pastry to fit a 9-inch pie plate. Place bottom crust in pie plate; pour in apple slices. 4. Roll out top crust into a 10-inch circle. Cut into 8 (1-inch) wide strips with a sharp paring knife or pastry wheel. Weave the pastry strips, one at a time, into a lattice pattern. Fold the ends of the lattice strips under the edge of the bottom crust and crimp to seal. 5. Pour butter-sugar mixture over top of pie, coating the lattice, and allowing any remaining sauce to drizzle through the crust. 6. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C), and bake until the crust is golden brown, the caramel on the top crust is set, and the apple filling is bubbling, 35 to 40 more minutes. Allow to cool completely before slicing.

TLDR: Honestly doesn't deserve the flak it's received. Pretty solid mmorpg but could use more polish. Pros and Cons with Cons first because reasons: Cons: - UI needs work and customization options. - English chat filter is garbage. I can't say Knight ffs and my primary class is Wind Knight. Apparently my existence is offensive. - Steam Controller support is terrible. Turn that crap off if you want to use a controller and have the game recognize your controller and not Steam. - A lot of different whatever the hell this one is currencies. - Clearly wants your money. Resist the urge to swipe for fashion. - Auto Play existing means many of your fellow adventures are brain dead so have fun with public parties. - Depending on your region the ping might climb Everest. For me it's perfectly smooth 98% of the time but I'm NA and your experience may vary. I'm sorry Australian's because I'd sincerely love to see ya'll in world chat adding to the banter and saying things like "Ok but it was just a Huntsman." - My burly middle aged man sounds like Link for some #$%^ing reason. - Ionno the story, I skipped it so writing maybe trash. A lot of go here talk to this person. - Content is time gated. Apparently this is a significant issue as people want to hit the games level cap of 60 and fight *Insert big bad evil guys name here* in some epic battle while they stim over big numbers. - There is zero PvP Content. If that's your primary reason to play an MMO ain't here chief. Have fun doin what you do elsewhere my beautiful murder hobo you. Also just from prior experience I'm almost certain PvP would be trash if it existed in this game due to how combat works. FF14 PvP is trash so ssdd here. Healers would just refuse to die. - Life Skills/Crafting is the typical cookie cutter WoW crap of click a lot of nodes. Slap a lot of crap together. Wait. ??? Profit. Gathering nodes are shared so if you never played Runescape you're in for a life changing experience when you try to mine something someone else is mining. This is actually a big con for me as I typically really enjoy crafting in mmorpgs. I have a touch of the tisms and enjoy doing repetitive tasks consistently. Pros: - Auto Play is optional, turn that off and enjoy pressing buttons in the correct sequence or when they glow magically. - Combat is not as brain dead as the Marksmen mains may leave you to believe. The boss mechanics are similar to FF14 with the addition of perfect dodge and parries akin to Souls. (Not all attacks can be parried. Failing to parry an attack that cannot be parried may result in: Injury, Shame, Losing the respect of your peers, Some stamina, Accidental dodging instead, ED, Loss of DPS and Death. Consult the red glow to see if Parrying is right for you.) - Experience is primarily from MSQ, side quests and dailies that you can blitz through. Some may say this is a negative but #$%^ them because 20 years ago I spent too much of my life killing the same enemy for 1% to level per hour in kmmorpg grind fests. - Provided you can resist the urge to swipe for fashion or a sukumizu (I see you mofo's you ain't slick.) The Cash shop just exists to be predatory for whales and isn't a requirement. You can say it's p2w because of Imagines but you can just get those anyway from just playing the game. "Oh but the premium ones can be a tier higher and-" bruh @#$% up. There's no PvP content. If you needed the 4% statistical increase to clear then you're playing on auto and should stop doing that. I will add a big ol' * here because this is subject to change in the future resulting in the game becoming p2w. However currently as of writing I ain't seeing it. - Movement is smooth, very smooth, with a lot of options (Run, Side step, small dash forward, back roll, jump, ALOT of jumps, Floating, flying, wall running, a goddamn Whirlwind Sprint). While this may go overlooked by people this means boss mechanics can be very precise and more punishing for failure. This also allows you to get in and out of massive AoE's very quickly so aggression and reflexes are favored. - Ionno the story, I skipped it so the writing maybe good. Press ESC to instantly skip instead of Holding F like they say. From the few seconds of cut-scenes I've seen there was some amount of effort in the visuals and set pieces. I think someone said "Nani?" a few times so if you're a big anime fan and like that then there you go. - There is zero PvP content so if you're like me and don't care about who's numbers are bigger there's that. Also means you don't feel pressured to swipe just to compete or whatever the @#$% - Dungeon Bosses are actually pretty legit. Provided you're not massively over the suggested Ability score there's some challenge requiring you to learn the boss mechanics and play accordingly. The first time my group tackled Hard at the suggested Ability score and we *actually* had some deaths I was genuinely excited. Unstable and Normal difficulties are just practice runs in comparison and any combat experienced before Hard is not a proper representation of the game's combat. Now *later* in the games lifespan I can see people hitting lv60 in a day and be so over leveled they just roflstomp til Master Difficulty. But in regards to "Suggested Party Strength" they actually got that challenge rating spot the hell on. - I can parry. No further input required. - I @#$% with the game's aesthetic. I've seen a lot of reviews saying things akin to "2025? Bah, this is 2019 Graphics!". Sick burn bro, but it looks like all the other anime gacha crap the kids rave about today for some reason or other. I fail to see the difference. If you want to see the pores of the anime waifu's armpits with ray tracing or count the Havok weight animation bones in Soandso-san's jiggle physics you do you I guess. It's clean enough and flashy. Animations look good. Jumping up to toss a spear so it lands with Zeus' anger is pretty slick. But I'll still play NES or PS1 games on occasion so I'm probably not the best for the modern gamer graphics metric. - There is *enough* character customization. I won't say it's the best character creator and customization I've seen in a game because it's simply not (I'm dead serious why the hell don't we have voice options? Why the hell do I sound like Kirito? I hate Kritio, all my homies outside one hate Kirito.). As a friend said "If this is all the outfits and cosmetics on day one, I am both impressed and underwhelmed.". There is enough going on you can make your character look how you want or feel with some exceptions. The options are bound to explode exponentially as there is no doubt in my mind a lot of this game's profit is going to be from selling cosmetics for your animu waifu. Provided they continue to add f2p cosmetics alongside that, things will be gucchi. - You can take photos and selfies of your animu avatar with a lot of options, zoom, filters, blah blah blah. I give *zero* @#$%s about this feature (outside taking joke pictures of my burly middle aged man in his undies with a bucket on his head at various landmarks and unleashing these war crimes upon my guild) but I know that might interest a fair bit of people. - It bares repeating, I can parry. - You have enough random dumb crap to do to keep you busy. Knocking out guild crap maybe an hour, knocking out daily quests maybe a little less than an hour. Fishing for the next days guild crap maybe 30 minutes to an hour. Dungeons can take your day if you want because you can just spam them. World boss channel hopping etc etc. There's content, the big question is how well the end game loop is going to hold up when you start hitting the cap or have. So I have to add another big * here in case content updates in the future are lacking. - Game is pretty generous with it's various pity systems and catch up systems. I've been pretty objective here outside the jokes. I'm hoping they don't completely drop the ball later because it's fun now.
