UPDATE: Played the game a lot more after reviewing, thought I was mad cuz bad. All my criticisms are the same and also the netcode SUCKS Steam needs a mixed review option tbh, I don’t want to give this game a full thumbs down but I don’t want to give it a thumbs up either AFQM is a nice little platform fighter (without ledges, shields, or grabs, so like Rivals 1) with fun-feeling movement and a couple gimmicks to its name, mainly getting an airdash after getting a hit. This is, in theory, an incredible system, and it feels like crack to get a combo off that uses one cancel, let alone multiple. Real platfighter heads remember this was the concept of Rushdown Revolution, a truly truly tragic story of a game. However, that’s also where the issues arise. The game’s movement and overall feel has this weird… sloshy/slippery/unintuitive feeling, and while it’s not a huge issue on its own (plenty of other platfighters have less than stellar gamefeel), the problem arises when you realize the amount of precision the game wants you to have to make the most of its mechanics. Hitboxes are tight and movement is sloshy while the game wants you to be pulling off airdash after airdash mid combo, and while I can’t deny that it’s certainly possible, it absolutely feels out of reach to an average player. I don’t necessarily want to git gud to experience a game’s selling point, especially since I’ve got thousands of platfighter hours behind me. Part of the issue might also be the characters? Rend is so hilariously slow in both movement and melee that the airdash system doesn’t actually benefit him, plus he feels like ass to play anyway. Knockt is really cool setplay but his melee hitboxes are so precise in both size and timing that you’d have to pull off some Nostradamus tier reads to be able to take advantage of airdashes. Wizard is just Fox with a little setplay and benefits most from the airdash system on account of having the quickest moves in the air alongside some slightly generous hitboxes. Overall, AFQM is a good game, but unless you want to devote an unreasonable amount of time to learning its overly-stringent ropes, then you’d be better served playing most any other platform fighter. Still, it’s incredibly cheap and at least worth a shot for that alone. TL;DR make game easier :( also fix the netcode 80 ping when i’m 500m away from the dude i’m playing is inexcusable

Platform fighters attract a unique kind of plague. It reeks of decay, oozing grease from its thick porous skin. I think I would rather spend eternity in the worst depictions of the christian hell than play a game with these rancid sacks of diseased meat.

I'm not good at this game therefore it sucks

Only leaving a negative review as me and my friends would regularly encounter server issues even in our own lobbies. This could just be an issue persisting to only the Australian servers, but it's bad enough to not be able to enjoy the game. Once the server issues are resolved I would change my review and consider purchasing the game again.

This game matched me with the same rage quitter three times in a row, I like to think they closed the game in frustration afterwards. Rocks or whatever I hope you have a good night where ever you are

Atm gotta give this a negative review. I was really looking forward to this game because the style has a certain charm to it, but the menu is HELL to navigate. I'm not sure who thought it was smart to ship the game with these menu controls, but here's the rundown: Most video games follow the same default button mapping, such as: "ESC" for menu or pause, "E" to pickup, "Shift" to sprint, "Ctrl" to crouch.... You get the point. Somehow, the devs here thought it would be a smart idea to reinvent the default buttons. "Backspace" is used to go back in the menu, "Enter" is used to pause in a match, however "Enter" is also used to confirm things, but so can "Space", however it's random on which one works when. There IS a cursor, but only during character selection, and even then it can only be controlled using the arrow keys... I don't know much about game deving, but is that not more work than just mapping the cursor to mouse movement? You also cannot rebind the menu navigation buttons, and attempting to rebind the Pause button from "Enter" to "ESC" just cancels out of the bind procedure, so it's impossible to do. Being able to change binds in training should also be possible. You shouldn't have to exit out into the main menu just to tweak one button to see how it feels in game. Selecting your custom button mapping is also hidden under a random pop up menu under your character AFTER having selected them, the game does not explain this to you at all. Please devs, just be normal and 1. Add a usable MOUSE cursor on the menu. 2. Remap the default menu buttons to what they are in like every modern major game, if someone wants to use backspace instead of esc, let them map it to that themselves? 3. Add rebinding during training, already explained this above. 4. Make it a little more obvious for players on how to actually select and use their remapped controls. I wont refund yet, Pluto did answer me in the Discord server and mentioned that the menu and UI will get updated after a week or so. REALLY really looking forward to that and hoping that word is kept. I also apologise for being harsh in my review, but I also do not understand how any of these choices were okay'd for release.

I love the art and aesthetic, but the controls feel really bad. I spent quite a bit of time getting a controller to work properly, just to have everything feel sluggish and unresponsive, especially compared to Brawlhalla, Smash, Aether, or even Flash party. I can see the potential but at the moment I would recommend Rivals 1 if you want a game with no Sheilds, Grabs or Ledges. Also might be mad cuz bad, but I feel like the sword fighter is easily the best

Unable to play 2p. Purchased 2 copies of the game. Neither person can join the others lobby in the same region. Quick match at the same time gets disconnected before a match can start.

I really wish steam had some kind of middle recommendation or for us to set a review as informational I really do enjoy the base of this game, but i got bored of it insanely quickly. A lot of the stuff promised at launch isn't here, like workshop or even an actual in-game tutorial. it feels like the game needed some more time in the oven. The skill floor is already too high that it just doesn't feel fun trying to fight against such huge sweats. This game is incredibly confused on what it wants to be. It wants to be a simple game for any skill level to play, but the quickplay is already flooded with annoying sweats who know your every move. There, again, isn't a proper tutorial yet.. And, i know they're already trying to fix it, but the servers are incredibly glitchy. sometimes i get stuck before joining a match and have to cancel, sometimes i join a match and there's nobody in there, it's a bit rough. there just isn't much content to start with. One of the selling points, workshop, isn't even in the game yet. (That was the main reason why i bought it..) This game is very cool, but perhaps wait before buying it. When i feel as if though there is a good enough amount of content, i'll change my review to positive :) No shade to the dev, of course.

Before reading, I'm really 50/50 on the game it's just that I have more negative to say then actually positive. But I'm not taking away from the devs it's just my opinion as a platform fighter player lol. But like if you like the game I don't blame you lol, it can be fun I just have lots to say about it. I was looking forward to this game when I seen HBox play it, the game mechanics are awesome I mean like doing a combo with cancels feels GREAT. Moving around feels very melee, like the big sword character (I forgot the names lol) movements feels like melee falcon so like no complaints on that. I feel like the biggest thing that this game is missing was an in-game tutorial. With such a unique mechanic as move cancels, I really wanted to learn the new mechanic but then there was no tutorial so like what was I supposed to do? I did training room for like 10 minutes to learn the mechanics and all the 3 characters out. Speaking of like the characters, I feel that there being really no "Jack of all trades" character and that really put me off. I either had to choose from a zoner, combo heavy/tricky character, or a heavy swinger with no fast moves. It made learning the game weird because I couldn't really pay attention to learning the mechanics as a whole, I had to learn the game as "how does my archetype work with the games mechanics." Like this game not having a "Mario" or "Kirby" really sets it back. It's three dramatic renditions of standard stereotypes (as listed above) without a middle ground character. Idk it just seemed strange to me The game itself like said before, feels great. Wave dashing and moving feel great. Being in an actual match is where all of the mechanics and good things fall apart. Idk if it's me playing on controller or not but attacking felt kind of unresponsive at times. I also tested with multiple controllers and felt the same so it might just be how the game deals with controllers. Anyway, another thing that was weird was teching. I felt like half of the time I was put into hitstun I could tech being hit on the ground but then I would get hit by the same thing and it would just leave me standing looking lost. That whole thing was present in every single match I played. (Again it could of been the controller thing) All in all, good game it's just that I have my gripes and it makes it feel very clunky imo (except the movement, I really like the movement.) All the things I mentioned were just really taking me out of the game and at some moments just making me question "why didn't that come out?" Anyway if you enjoy the game, you enjoy the game. I'll probably keep playing it to see how I feel about it. I have high hopes for it and I am happy that it looks like it has a future!!! (I also went on an ego rant in the original, yeah I'm high key wrong for that. My bad)

Overall good game to play with friends, quick match is sweaty and everyone plays rend. Please for the love of god nerf rend and buff knockt. People only play rend in quick matches cuz he has easy combos and does way too much damage. As long as you balance out the characters and add more maps the game, it can improve.
