Im mind blown by the fact that me and a lot of others waited years for this game, just for the developers to spit in our faces. The story is bad and very unclear. There are no good characters and our main character doesn't matter to the story. There is no voice acting. A lot of aspects are copy and paste from the first game, which wouldn't be bad if they added a lot of new stuff in compensation. There is no major boss battle. Most of the caves are really small empy boxes containing rope only. The entire map is waaaay too big for its content, you have to walk 40 minutes from cave to cave. From the beginning of the game, you don't know what to do so you have to use google to find out. There are a lot of bugs that would be discovered if they would play test the game themselves once (like the rotten meat bug). I would much rather play the first game 100 times than this game once. I really hope they are going to revamp the entire story.

The killing and dismembering of cannibals is even more fun than in the first game! Also a great job making them beg for their life, real fun to see the fear in their eyes before u finish them off and see the life fleeting from their soulless bodies.

🌲 Overview Sons of the Forest drops you once again into a mysterious, forested island crawling with cannibals, mutants, and secrets. You’re sent on a rescue mission to find a missing billionaire — but things go very wrong, very fast. The game builds on everything The Forest did well, expanding the survival mechanics, graphics, and AI systems to create one of the most immersive survival experiences out there. 🔨 Gameplay & Survival Survival feels intense and rewarding. You’ll need to: Gather resources, craft weapons, and build shelter. Hunt animals, cook food, and maintain health, stamina, and sanity. Manage seasons — winter can be brutally unforgiving if you’re not prepared. The building system is a huge leap forward. Instead of pre-set blueprints, you can manually place logs and sticks to construct detailed bases — cabins, treehouses, even traps. It’s intuitive and incredibly satisfying. 🧠 AI & Companions A standout feature is Kelvin, an AI companion who helps with tasks like collecting logs or fishing. He doesn’t talk (due to a head injury) but communicates through gestures — and honestly, he’s a game-changer for solo play. You can also encounter Virginia, a three-armed mutant who can become a powerful ally if you treat her well. The enemy AI is also much smarter. Cannibals will scout your base, test your defenses, and react dynamically to your actions — sometimes attacking, other times watching from a distance. It adds a level of tension rarely seen in survival games. 👀 Graphics & Atmosphere Visually, Sons of the Forest is stunning. The lighting, weather effects, and forest density make the world feel alive — and terrifying. When night falls or fog rolls in, the sense of dread skyrockets. The sound design, from rustling leaves to distant screams, perfectly complements the atmosphere. 🧩 Story & Exploration The story is minimalist but intriguing, told through notes, environmental clues, and underground facilities. Exploring caves and bunkers is both fascinating and horrifying — think Subnautica meets Resident Evil. The mystery of the island and its mutated inhabitants unfolds gradually, keeping you curious and uneasy. ⚙️ Performance & Issues While the game has improved significantly since Early Access, it can still suffer from occasional bugs, pathfinding glitches, and inconsistent frame rates on lower-end PCs. The co-op mode works well, but syncing can sometimes be a little rough. Still, it’s far more polished than in its early days. 🤝 Co-op Experience Playing with friends elevates the experience. Dividing roles — one building, another hunting, one exploring caves — creates a real sense of teamwork. The chaotic moments when a mutant raid hits your camp are unforgettable. ✅ Verdict Sons of the Forest is a brilliant, immersive evolution of the survival-horror genre. It’s beautiful, brutal, and endlessly replayable. While it’s not without rough edges, the depth of its systems and the tension of its world make it one of the best survival games of the decade. ⭐ Score: 9/10 Pros: Gorgeous visuals and atmosphere Deep, satisfying building and survival systems Smart AI (both friendly and hostile) Fantastic co-op gameplay Cons: Occasional bugs and AI quirks Story could be deeper for some players

I played this game solo and IMHOI this will end up the same way as the original first game 'the forest'. The assets are very good, the island is nice, tree chopping excellent, everything created by the visual department is very good. Sound, is also very good, building has improved a bit over the first game, the canibal AI feel a step back to 'the forest'. But like the first game, stiching everything together into a compelling game is a serious let down. Survival? A joke. -Hunger just simply doesn't exist. Yes you have a meter, but just ask Kelvin to go get fish and tadaa, problem solved forever from the start of the game. -Water? no problem, just drink out of any river, no worries, no problem, no sickness, no challenge. -Building? not needed, you can, but you do not have to. Just go from place to place setting up and breaking down your trusty tarp. -Combat? No need for it, just run away, you don't need a base, don't have a base, so why protect something you don't have, just move away. This feels like a sandbox where you COULD do base building, but is optional. Once you kinda found your bearings and figured it out, you notice the game goes to the earliest form of game prolongment = you need x color card to enter this door and throw some 'keycard/equipment needed' points over a map. just like doom did decades ago. Like i said, the assets ARE there, but whoever is responsible to create a game out of them is lacking vision. To me (again) this feels like a game that is sewn together as they went along, without any real long term vision from the start. Can it still end up a great game? yes, but like the first one, i don't see that happening. IMHO i would implement following things ASAP : 1-the MAIN story line has to be clear, no documents, no fluff. Elaborate aside the main story line, but point clearly what the next objectives are and the story is. Build this, locate this item somewhere in this area, etc. Want lore? you can find it, but that has to be found out in the wild. Drop the forced tie ins with the first game. The first game story was kinda meh, and most didn't even cared for it because it was for many too hard to piece together. I think more than half had to check youtube to even make head or tails of the first story because it just wasn't very clear. And now, they do the same thing again, only now it is even more difficult to understand as it has to tie in with the first game that the player likely never played. Half documents, obscure pictures. all good, for optional stuff, the main story needs to be clear, as should the objectives be. 2-Combine the building with survival and exploration. You need to set up a base, bacause you need to construct something (like a dish for your map phone thing to work). And you need to be able to keep it safe. Giving Kelvin and eventually virginia an actual task, defending while you are on the obligated quests out on the island. I am dissapointed. and feel bad for all the people that put in heart and soul in the really good an innovative things you can find in this game.
