RuneScape: Dragonwilds definitely has potential, but recommending it isn’t easy. It feels similar to Valheim in some ways, but with an important difference: Valheim came from a small indie team at a lower price point. This game, on the other hand, is backed by a major company with more resources—so expectations are naturally higher.
I ended up refunding it just shy of the two-hour mark. I played solo, and right off the bat, the movement felt stiff—maybe it’s the animations, or maybe the controls themselves, but it’s most noticeable in combat. Dodging doesn’t feel reliable, and I kept getting hit even while trying to evade. The combat is clunky and lacks the responsiveness you’d expect.
The survival mechanics are also a bit much. Building and crafting systems seem decent, but managing food and water gets frustrating fast. You need to eat or drink several items just to stay full, and while resources are plentiful, constantly feeding your character feels more like a chore than a feature.
I get that it's early access, and there’s room to improve. If you’ve got a group of friends—say four or more—you’ll probably get some enjoyment out of it. But for solo players? I’d recommend waiting.
I’m not the biggest survival genre fan to begin with, but I was hoping this would be one of the exceptions, like Valheim was for me. Unfortunately, it just didn’t click. That said, the graphics are fantastic—no complaints there.
